Our second weekend trip of the year was another visit to the land of the stars, Los Angeles. Last year we had the opportunity to visit, funny enough it was pretty much on the same weekend, but there were still a few more things that we wanted to visit in Los Angeles, which is why we decided to visit again. So here’s the first part of our recap of our second trip to Los Angeles!

The Wandering Weekenders- Exploring Los Angeles

Friday

We had a very late flight out of Houston Friday night, so it was almost midnight by the time we landed in Los Angeles. So we quickly grabbed a cab and headed to Beverly Hills and to turn in for the night. This trip we decided to stay at The Beverly Hilton in the heart of Beverly Hills, and it was a very nice and swanky hotel. We definitely loved how beautiful the hotel was.

Saturday

We woke up at a decent hour on Saturday because we had a lot that we wanted to accomplish during our only full day in the city of angels. About 8:00 we got an uber and headed to downtown Los Angeles to explore The Last Bookstore.

The Last Bookstore

The Last Bookstore is a new and used bookstore located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. Not only is it known for having an amazing amount of books, including some rare books, but it’s also known for a lot of its book art. The first floor is purely a bookstore with the rare book section, while the second floor is dedicated to the book art with some more books that you can pick up.

They opened at 10:00 AM on Saturday, and we were there right when it opened. We had such a blast exploring the books and being amazed by all of the book art. You’ve seen the picture  of the flying books on my Instagram already, but I don’t know if it’s my favorite book art or the book arch! If you’ve never visited The Last Bookstore, I definitely recommend it.

Daikokuya

After we were done exploring The Last Bookstore, we were ready for lunch. Before we left for LA, I had looked at The Local Adventurer’s post on their 49 Favorite Places To Eat in Los Angeles, and they were raving about a ramen place in Downtown LA that was within walking distance. We had taken their suggestion about a ramen place during our visit to NYC, and they were completely spot on, so we knew we could trust them.

When we showed up to Daikokuya a little bit after 11, the line was already out the door! We put our names on the list and waited about 20 minutes before getting a seat, and let me tell you the wait was totally worth it. If you love ramen and are in the downtown LA area, you definitely need to check this place out.

The Getty

After lunch, we had a few hours before our Warner Brothers Studio Tour, so we decided to visit one of the places I had heard so much about, The Getty. The Getty is a beautiful building that is not only home to a beautiful garden area, but also some amazing art as well. The best part about The Getty is that it’s free admission, just make sure you bring some money for parking!

The Getty is located at N Sepulveda Blvd and Getty Center Dr, so we had about a 30 minute Uber drive to get us from Downtown LA to The Getty. When we arrived, it seemed like there was a very long line to get on the trolley that takes you to the top of The Getty, so we decided to walk. That was a very big mistake! The line goes quickly, and it’s a longer walk up to the top than you think.

Once we made it to the top, we decided to explore the Garden area of The Getty and check out the views since we really didn’t have that much time to explore. The Getty is set up on a hill, and it has some of the most amazing views of Los Angeles. You definitely don’t want to miss it!

The Gardens are just as extraordinary as the view from The Getty. I can’t imagine the amount of time and effort it must take to maintain everything, but I’m so glad that they do. It’s such a stunning site to see, and totally worth the trip. While we were there we noticed that several families had brought lunches with them and were having a picnic in the Garden area. It definitely seems like the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

By the time we were done exploring The Gardens, we really didn’t have any time for anything else because we had to make it to our studio tour. I would definitely want to go back and explore all of the amazing art exhibits during our next visit.

As I said, we had a very busy day in Los Angeles, and I’m not even done recapping it yet! Check back next time for a full recap on our Warner Brothers Studio Tour! I’m linking up with Kerri, Kate, and Emily for Wanderlust Wednesday!
