Brrr you guys! I hope that everybody managed to stay warm this past weekend! We had some pretty cold weather in Houston that even dropped into the 20’s, which is pretty crazy considering that a week ago it was in the 80’s, and it will be again later on this week. Because of all the cold weather, we decided that a weekend at home is just what we needed, especially since we still needed to take down Christmas. Here’s what our very cold weather looked like, and of course, I’m linking up with Biana!

The Wandering Weekenders- Weekending Around The House

Friday

We’re right in the middle of year end at work, but I still managed to get home at a decent hour Friday night. We had made some chili earlier this week, and I was very happy to have that to help keep me warm on Friday night.

We still had Christmas up at our house, so we decided to get a jump start on taking down all of our Christmas decorations by taking down all of the ornaments off the tree. It’s definitely not as much fun as putting the ornaments on the tree, but it was still fun to see all of the ornaments commemorating our trips that we’ve been on.

Saturday

We didn’t have big plans for Saturday other than getting to sleep in a little bit and take down Christmas, which is exactly what we did. It’s definitely not the most fun thing to do on a Saturday, and truth be told we still have boxes lying around the house that need to go up, but at least the decorations are down!

The Wandering Weekenders- Weekending Around The House

The rest of the day was spent relaxing at home and getting a few things done around the house. I managed to get a little bit of work done on some of our photo books of our trip to Northern California from 2014 (yeah, I’m that far behind), and we also managed to get quite a bit of episodes of Friends under our belt as well!

It had been a while since Chris and I had a sushi date, so we decide that this would be the perfect weekend for one. MF Sushi is probably the best sushi restaurant in all of Houston, and we loved being able to splurge on some amazing nigiri and rolls as well. It was the perfect way to end our evening!

The Wandering Weekenders- Weekending Around The House

Sunday

Like usual, Sunday was our day for getting ready for the rest of the week. We went out and got some Pho for lunch before going grocery shopping and meal prepping for the week followed by a ton of laundry. This week I’m really excited to try a Skinnytaste recipe that’s been on her website for forever, but that for some reason we’ve never tried! It was delicious, made a ton, and is definitely one that we’ll be trying again soon!

The Wandering Weekenders- Weekending Around The House

The rest of the day was spent watching A New Hope after I’d been dying to watch it after seeing Rogue One, and a lot more episodes of Friends! We just watched Chandler and Monica’s wedding, and I can’t wait to the last few seasons!

Overall, it wasn’t too exciting of a weekend, but we did mange to get a few things done around the house. But you know what, I feel like it was the perfect weekend to kick off 2017 before things get too crazy, like they always do!

Did you have an exciting weekend? Have you taken down all of your Christmas decorations yet?

Just a little bit of weekending at home filled with lots of Friends and taking down the Christmas decorations!

  • I love Dart all wrapped up in the blanket! It’s freezing here in South Carolina, and I DO NOT like it. (I live on the coast for a reason–no snow, no sleet, and no Arctic temperatures!) Thankfully, we’ve got a forecast in the upper 70s later this week, so it will be shorts weather by Friday. 🙂 We didn’t do much this weekend, either, since none of us felt like going out in the cold. I was super domestic-y and made a bunch of crockpot freezer meals and played with our new vacuum sealer. Clearly, my life is one big party!

    • Haha, your weekend sounds a whole lot like my weekend too! And I totally know what you mean about not wanting all of that cold weather! I would have loved it for Christmas, but now I’m kind of over it, or at least for the weather to make up its mind! We’re supposed to be in the 80s later on this week, and I feel like I’ll need to just keep all sorts of clothes in my closet for all of this crazy weather!

  • a nice weekend indeed! and glad you stayed warm. that sushi looks phenomenal! and dart under the blanket is just how i felt all weekend haha. all my decor is down – i think i immediately got on that when i got home from traveling for the holiday! i can’t help it – when the holiday is over i have to remove it all haha. happy monday girly!

    xoxo cheshire kat

    • Haha, I feel like I’m just too lazy to put all of my decorations up, which is one of the reasons why I think they stayed out for so long. And the sushi was so good! That was actually duck that they brought out for us that was on the cooker thing and it was so cool! And we all pretty much stayed under the covers this whole weekend along with Dart. I’m just glad that it’ll warm up a little bit, I just wish that it’s not going to get so hot!

  • I’m sad to say that my Christmas decorations are still up…. We had a busy weekend, and I was totally going to do it Sunday, but I ran out of time. Next weekend! It makes me so sad, so it’s easy to put off. Sounds like a productive weekend at home! We are getting through Friends too! We tend to watch at least one episode a day! I always love it!

    • I love it too! I don’t know how I didn’t watch it earlier, but I’m one of those people that has to watch a show from the beginning which is why I probably never watched the reruns on TV. And taking down all the Christmas decorations is definitely so depressing! I hated doing it this weekend, but it does feel good to have it all packed away, even though some of the boxes might still be out…

  • omg Dart in the blanket is so cute and basically what I looked like all weekend too! That’s such a huuuge temperature shift, it’s super cold here now, but I’m hoping it will warm up again a little bit. I’ve never had sushi so I’m clueless, but what is going on in that picture?! It looks so cool.

    • The picture actually isn’t of sushi, it’s duck that was cooking when they brought it out, but it was too cool to not take a picture of. Last time we went they actually served us sushi with gold flakes, and it was so cool! I know that you’re probably hating all the cold weather, but all of the huge temperature swings are making so many of us sick down here! I just want Texas to make up its mind lol!

  • Nadine

Look at Dart! So cute!! I got Christmas down a few days after Christmas because I needed the space back in my living room for all the baby gear that had taken over! So much stuff for such a little person! Sounds like you had a nice relaxing weekend. I think those are so important between all the hustle. It was cold here too with some snow and ice so we stayed in as well. Hope you have a great week!

    • It sounds like a ton of people tried to avoid all of the nasty and cold weather this weekend and stayed in! It was just too cold to go out and do anything, and like you said, it was pretty awesome to just stay in and relax because I know that the year is going to start speeding up sooner rather than later. Taking down Christmas is always the worst! I just need motivation to do it right after the holiday!

  • We just got all our Christmas decorations down last week, so you aren’t that far behind! I was putting it off for as long as possible. 🙂 Glad you had a cozy and relaxing weekend in – those are the best! Dart seemed to like it, too!

    • I feel like Dart always loves it when we have a weekend at home and hardly go out because it means that he gets to be home all weekend with us! And I’m glad that we aren’t that far behind everybody! It just sucks taking down Christmas because the house always feels so empty afterwards!

  • I literally just watched Chandler and Monica’s wedding, too!!

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Dart and the blankie….adorable!!! Mmmmm, now I’m hungry for sushi! I had 25 boxes of Christmas decor, finally took the tree down and I literally kissed it goodbye when I unplugged the lights for the last time. Sad to see it go. I hope your week is off to great start!

    • It really is so sad when everything for Christmas gets unplugged and taken down! It makes me want to cry because the house ends up feeling empty and so not festive. Ans sushi is always a good idea! I was so glad that we were able to go out on a dinner date this weekend!

  • I love that this is a Dart photo heavy post! heheh What crazy weather for you guys! It happens for us that way a lot.. but we are much farther north! 🙂 We stayed in and relaxed almost all weekend, it was great! 🙂 XO – Alexandra

    Simply Alexandra: My Favorite Things

    • I kind of wish that we had gotten some snow because it was so cold and it would have made the cold weather a little more worth it! And Dart definitely tends to occupy my pictures when we spend the weekend at home, so of course I had to share them with all of y’all!

  • I love when Christmas comes down! Of course our outdoor stuff is still up because it’s stuck out there with the snow.

    • Haha, I think that’s a job for MFD when the snow melts a little bit! Chris didn’t even put Christmas decorations outside this year which I thought was sad!

  • It was definitely way too cold for me, add that to being sick meant I basically was a recluse. Taking down the decorations is definitely not as much fun. Yay for getting more episodes of Friends covered and working on your photo books, those feel like they take forever, but it’ll be worth it once it’s all done and you have it to look back on!

    • Exactly! I always love to look back at my photo books once they’re done, as long as I can actually spend the time to get them made. And I’m so sorry that you were so sick this weekend, but I definitely don’t think that you missed much! And even though it was cold, it definitely wasn’t as cold as Chicago can be, as you know for sure!

  • We took Christmas down this weekend too, and we were going to have a sushi date but it snowed almost 2 feet instead! haha. That picadillo recipe looks deliocioussss!! Going to bookmark that one. I love Skinnytaste!

    • Skinnytaste is seriously the best, and I don’t know what I would do without it! She has some of the most delicious recipes that we love making different versions of. I can’t believe that it snowed 2 feet! That’s so crazy! The weather was just crazy all over the place this past weekend!

  • This sounds like the perfect way to kick off the new year since you had some hectic traveling last weekend. Sounds like you got a lot done! I had a very similar weekend and it was much needed with that cold snap. We have the same weather and it is hard to imagine 80 degrees on Thursday but that is weather down here!

    • This weather is seriously so crazy! I ended up wearing mint green the other day to work because it just felt so much like spring! And I’m glad that we weren’t the only ones that decided to take it easy last weekend, although it’s so depressing without all of the Christmas stuff decorating the house!

  • Jen

The weather here was crazy! It got down to 19 at one point and it snowed a bit. We will be back up into 70 degree weather this week and it makes me laugh.

    • I still can’t believe how much the temperature is just swinging like that! I just want it to make up its mind about whether I need to wear shorts or heavy sweaters!

  • I can’t believe how cold it got every where this weekend! Even we got into the 30’s for a bit down here, crazy! Sometimes a relaxing weekend is perfect! Your Pho looked so yummy, perfect for a cold day! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

    • I love the pho place near our house is so incredibly delicious, and I swear I could eat it all the time, even if it’s hot outside! I saw that y’all ended up getting some really cold weather this weekend too, but I bet that you’re back up into the 70s like us right now!

  • It was snowing here all weekend!!

  • Oh I definitely needed to ease into the New Year at the weekend. It’s freezing out! Your weekend sounds lovely, lots of enjoyable cosy things and some useful jobs too. Your weather is even worse than ours! And that’s really saying something…!

    • Haha I know! The weather has been so incredibly bipolar lately, and I just want it to make up its mind! We’re back in the 70s today, and we might even get in the 80’s! I’m just glad that we weren’t the only ones taking it easy during the first weekend of the new year, especially since this week was our first regular work week back in a while!

  • Ugh, I still haven’t taken down Christmas yet. It’s on my list for this weekend, but I don’t want to! The house looks so cheery with all of the decoration up.

    • I totally agree! It’s so much fun to put up all the Christmas decorations, but it’s so depressing to take it all down. I hope that you can get everything done next weekend!

  • It was super cold here too (as you know FL can get COLD since it was when you guys were here last year), perfect weekend to relax! Your meal looked delish, definitely worth venturing out in the cold for <3

    Green Fashionista

    • Exactly! When the weather gets cold, I feel like all I want is either pho or ramen and I ended up having them both last weekend! It’s seriously so crazy how cold Florida can get, but I bet that you ended up loving the cold weather while it was there!

      • I moved to FL for the warm weather after growing up in the northeast, so I’m one of the haters of the cold fronts lol 😛

  • I feel like it was super cold everywhere this weekend! We even got a little bit of snow! I love that photo of Dart all bundled up. Your sushi date sounds fantastic too. 🙂

    • I just couldn’t help getting that picture of Dart because he was just so cute! I’m so jealous that y’all got snow this weekend! I really wished that we could have gotten some snow because it almost would have made the cold weather a little bit worth it.

  • Rachel

Weekends at home when it’s so cold are the best! It was freezing here too. I love the picture of Dart with the blanket over his head haha! I always try to put a blanket over Ella because she’s so little and I’m always afraid she is cold, but she just gets up and knocks it off! She does like sitting on top of my heated blanket though haha! Happy Monday, Ashley!

    xo, Rachel
    A Blonde’s Moment

    • I bet that Dart would love a heated blanket! My parents actually have a feral cat that they feed and take care of and they made him a little home that has an electric blanket that he loves during the winter. Dart is kind of the opposite of Ella in that he loves to be under the covers even if he gets hot! He’ll be panting and still want to be buried under the covers!

  • Your Sunday sounds like our Sunday to a T. And hey, I think that sounds like a nice weekend – full of getting life in order, cute, snuggley dogs and cooking! Sounds really fun. Good lawd your pup is cute!

    • Thank you! I feel like he definitely knows how cute he is and tries to milk it for all that he’s worth! Sundays definitely are our day for getting stuff done, and the pho is definitely an added bonus to it all!

  • Productive, yet relaxing weekends are always nice. I swear it took me almost a full week to take down Christmas this year. I did our main tree one night then a few more trees the next day and then finally got the boxes put a way a few days later. It’s much easier for me than to rush and do it all in one day and wear myself out. Your dinner looked amazing in your snap last night-YUM! Have a great week, stay warm!

    • Thank you! It’s crazy how much the weather has already flip flopped on us because we’re back in the 70’s which is totally insane! And we probably should have done exactly what you did and slowly took down Christmas, but I feel like I’m always so lazy during the week which means that we rush to get everything done on the weekend. I’m just glad that we were all successful in taking Christmas down!

  • Christina Sotherden

That picture of Dart all cuddled up is so cute! We took down the final parts of our Christmas decorations this weekend too – always so sad to see the tree go!

  • All my Christmas stuff is down. womp womp. I had a super lazy and relaxing weekend too. I fully intended to blog about it and then didn’t. lol so is life. But I’m glad you had a nice relaxing weekend! Those are needed every once in a while! 🙂 I’m ready for it to be two weeks from now so we can go to dinner again! lol We need to decide where to go! Hope you have a great week friend!

    • We really do need to decide where we want to go for dinner in a couple of weeks and what part of town we all want to meet up at! I feel like this past lazy weekend was really needed, especially since we all just got back from the holidays and stuff. I just wish that we had more 3 day weekends ahead so we could be a lazy at home more often!

  • Wow, I didn’t realize Houston could get that cold! Defo the perfect weekend to stay in and do house admin. I meal prepped as well and I don’t know how people do it – eating the same thing over and over? But I checked out that skinnytaste recipe – looks amazing; will attempt this wknd!

    • I have to admit I’m one of those people that could eat the same thing over and over again, but Chris is right there with you about not wanting to eat the same thing over and over again. That’s the worst part about kicking for only one or two people, there’s always a ton of leftovers! And nobody ever expects Houston to get that cold, and I think that’s the reason why we had so many people that had pipes burst!

      • Ooh, burst pipes not fun!! Hope your house wasn’t one of them…! I’m ok with eating the same thing 2 days in a row, maaaaybe 3. But 4 is pushing it. Sigh.

  • I feel ya on the weather ups and downs. Dart looks exactly how I was most of the weekend wrapped up in a blanket made into a hoodie. Too cute! I don’t deal with cold too well clearly.

    • I don’t blame you! I had my big furry socks on this weekend and got to wear my furry boots, otherwise I would have just been freezing! But we’re right back into the warm weather now!

  • Sounds like my weekend! It was too dang cold to do anything else!

  • What is that grill thing?! I’ve never seen one of those before!

    • It’s how they served us duck at the restaurant. They apparently had some coals in there that cooked the duck continuously. It was so cool!

  • Relaxing weekends are the best! I can’t believe the temps dropped so low!
