Double the trouble, double the fun, our family is growing by two not just one! Chris and I couldn’t be more excited to announce that we’ll be adding two additional carry ons to our family this November!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our Newest Carry Ons- Arriving November 2017

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then you saw a little prequel of our Europe trip in pictures and also this fun announcement as well! Chris and I are expecting TWINS this November and we couldn’t be more excited (and a little nervous too if we’re being completely honest)!

Obviously we weren’t planning this announcement when we booked our trip last year, but one of the promises that I did make to Chris when we booked our trip was that it wouldn’t matter if I was pregnant or not on this trip that I would still have fun. And fun we did have!

Anyways, we found out that we were pregnant in March and when we started doing the math on when we could announce that we were expecting the idea of waiting for this trip just seemed perfect! I’ll have to admit though, and I know that I’ve already told a few people this, when we decided to wait, I had no idea how hard it would be to actually not talk about all things baby and babies, especially when I found out that a few fellow bloggers were expecting as well. But I will say that the wait was totally worth it in the end and I couldn’t be happier with how our announcement turned out!

So I’m sure that y’all have questions for me about the pregnancy so feel free to ask them and I’ll answer them! But in the meantime, here are the most commonly asked questions that we received when we’ve told people that we were expecting twins.

Do twins run in your family?

No! We found out that we were expecting twins during our second doctors appointment. He had literally just finished asking us family history questions, including whether or not twins ran in our family, and then we did the ultrasound and he said, “Look there’s your baby. And that line right there means that there’s another one. Oh yeah, there it is!” Needless to say we were floored and shocked!

Are you having fraternal or identical twins?

When we found out that we were having twins, we made an appointment with a sonographer and during that appointment we found out that we’re having fraternal twins, and not identical twins. (Which I have to admit I’m really excited about because that means we still have the option for a boy and a girl, and I really thought that I wouldn’t be able to tell identical twins apart!) The way that they could tell that they were fraternal was because they both have their own amniotic sac and placenta and there’s this little lambda symbol which is a sign of fraternal twins. Apparently if that isn’t there, you could still have identical twins even if the babies have separate amniotic sacs and placentas.

Do you know the genders?

We didn’t do the blood test, and I actually don’t know if that would have even worked on us since we’re having twins, but we’re doing the anatomy scan at the  end of this month, and we’ll be doing a gender reveal to find out the genders in July! Chris was so totally team boy and I was so totally team girl that having fraternal twins might be a little bit of a blessing because we have a chance of getting one of each! Fingers crossed for a boy and a girl!

Have you had bad morning sickness?

I really haven’t had that bad of pregnancy symptoms during this pregnancy, so I really can’t complain. I’ve been a little queasy but not so bad that I’m running to the bathroom. The only symptom that I’ve hated has been how tired I was during the first trimester! I think that’s why my reading has really slumped during the last couple of months. I would literally get on the bus and immediately fall asleep because I was so tired!

What do you miss the most now that you’re pregnant?

I honestly thought that I would miss wine the absolute most when I got pregnant, but I honestly haven’t missed it too terribly much. There are some days that I wish that I could come home after work and have a glass of red wine, but those days have been few and far between. The #1 thing that I have missed the absolute most during this pregnancy is soft cheese, especially blue cheese, and charcuterie! Y’all know how much I love charcuterie night and that’s definitely hit me the hardest not being able to have those, especially when we were in Paris and most places had charcuterie as appetizers on the menu!

How will Dart react to the babies?

Dart is still doing really well with all of his cancer treatments, and we really hope and pray that he’ll be here to meet his new siblings! We think that he’d be a great big brother because he’s been around babies and young children pretty much his whole life. All that being said, he is an older dog, and it wouldn’t surprise me if ran upstairs to get away from all of the crying that will be going on. But other than that, there’s no plans to change anything for him. He’ll still have full reign of the house, get lots of cuddles from us, and of course, sleep in bed with us!

Will you still travel when you have the babies?

Of course! I have to admit that I don’t really relish the idea of flying with two infants, but the best thing about Texas is that there’s a lot to do within driving distance! Plus I think that grandparents would be really excited to hopefully watch the babies for us every once in a while for a vacation!

Are you going to blog about your pregnancy?

I think that I am! I’ve got a really long post in my drafts all about the first trimester and I think that I’ll probably post that sometime this month. After that I’ll probably post monthly bumpdates because I love the fact of being able to look back on it later. I bought a pregnancy journal but I really haven’t been keeping up with it too much. Plus I find that I do better if I type versus writing everything out. So we’ll see how it goes putting together two baby books too!

Well that’s all I can think of as far as big questions that we’ve been asked about the pregnancy! If you have anymore, just ask away and I’ll answer! Like I said, Chris and I are so thrilled about our two new additions, and we’re so excited that we finally get to share it with the world!

All about our travel pregnancy announcement and a little bit more about the details of the pregnancy so far!

  • you guys! when i saw the IG post i almost spit out my coffee in excitement! seriously so cool and i couldn’t be happier for you both! def blog about all of it – love following along 🙂 plus you’ll love looking back on it later! i think i vote for a boy and girl too…fun!

    xoxo cheshire kat

    • Thank you so much! We’re pretty happy and excited, and the first bump date is going up on Friday! I had bought a pregnancy journal at the beginning of my pregnancy, but I totally fell off the wagon on actually writing in it, so I think that blogging about it will definitely help me to remember all the little things. We find out gender at the end of July and I seriously can’t wait!

  • Looove this announcement– so excited for you guys, and so fun to have twins! I can’t imagine how surprising it must have been when the doctor told you since they don’t run in the family or anything. So happy to hear Dart is doing well with his treatments too <3

    • It’s still kind of hard to believe that we’re having two babies, but Chris just bought some baby stuff today from a resale, and it’s definitely starting to feel more real. It’s too funny because I had kind of joked about having twins like the week before we found out that we were having twins, and it’s funny that it turned out to be true. And he really is doing so well! I need to write a post and give an update on how he’s doing!

  • Nadine

When I saw the announcement on Facebook I squealed!!!!!! And twins!!!! Double the blessing!!! I can’t even imagine the shock you must have felt when the doctor said there was a second one in there. I can’t wait to hear your gender reveal results!!!! And all about your pregnancy. Yay babies!!!!

    • I’m seriously so excited to finally be able to talk about it here because I know so many other bloggers that I’ve gotten close to that have had babies recently and I can’t wait to pick their brain, like you! And once we found out I pretty much started crying because it was just so crazy! It definitely freaked out Chris, but they were happy tears at the same time, if that makes sense. The first bump date is going up on Friday!

  • The perfect blog post title! Congrats again girl, future aggies I’m sure! 😉

    • Thank you so much! And totally future Aggies! We got our first round of baby gifts and they’re all Aggie things!

  • That is so exciting! Can’t wait to follow along. Congratulations again!

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Oh Ashley I am giddy, over the moon excited for you both! What lucky little babies to be getting you two as parents! I’m grinning ear to ear today over this post!!! CONGRATULATIONS times 2!!!!!!!! xoxo

    • Thank you so much! I have to admit that I think that we’re both a little nervous about having two babies at one time, but I know that no matter what it’ll be a fun adventure! Plus the hard times can’t last for forever, right!

  • Congratulations! What wonderful news!

  • WOW! How very exciting! Congratulations!

  • I’ve been following your blog for a while and never commented, but this is such exciting news! Congratulations to your whole family!

    • Thank you so much, and thanks for following along! We’re so excited, and I know that our whole families are excited about welcoming two new babies to the mix!

  • I literally shrieked when I saw your instagram post!! I’m so so so happy for you, and I can’t wait to follow along with your pregnancy! Since our kiddos will be so close in age, I may have to plan a trip out to Texas so they can all meet!

    • Thank you so much! We’re still over the moon excited, and definitely still nervous, but definitely more excited now! And a trip to Texas is always a good idea 🙂

  • Another big congrats to you! How exciting! Glad that you’ve been feeling pretty good, too – hopefully it stays that way!

    • Thank you! And I’m surprised by how well I’ve been doing during this pregnancy too! My mother in law was surprised too that I didn’t get more sick during the first trimester since I was pregnant with twins! She was a sonographer before she retired.

  • Yay!! So happy for you!!

  • Nicole F

Congratulations! That is great news! Surprising news, I’m sure, but great nonetheless!

  • YAY! Your pregnancy announcement was so cute! And I can’t believe ya’ll are having twins, crazy! You definitely need to bring them down here to Disney when they’re old enough! Can’t wait to find out what you’re having! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

    • We can’t wait to find out what we’re having either, and knowing that we have a while still to wait is going to drive me crazy! And a million times yes to bringing them to Disney when they’re old enough! We’re already talking about surprising them for their birthdays one year with a trip to Disney World and how fun that would be!

  • Ahhh congratulations! That is so exciting! I LOVE the announcement picturures.

    • Thank you so much! We had so much fun taking them, and it made our trip something even more special to look forward to!

  • So so so excited for you guys! Best pregnancy announcement ever! So glad to hear that your symptoms haven’t been too bad, the exhaustion and nausea during the 1st trimester can be debilitating. Can’t wait to follow along, and yes to all the travel once they’re here. CONGRATS again sweet friend <3

    Green Fashionista

    • Thank you! The trip couldn’t have come at a more perfect time since we were right at the point where we could start telling people. The exhaustion was seriously the worst during the first trimester! I was so happy that I rode the bus because I could actually nap in the mornings and the afternoons which was so helpful!

  • OMG Ashley congratulations to you and Chris!! I can only IMAGINE the shock about finding out there were twins, but like you said, that’s so exciting in so many ways!!! Looking forward to the gender reveal if you share it! 🙂
Hope you are feeling well and less tired now – SO happy for you!!!

    • I’ll definitely be sharing the gender reveal once it happens! When we found out that we were having twins we definitely decided that this might be our only pregnancy so we were going to do everything that we wanted to do, like bump pictures, maternity pictures, and a gender reveal. We’re definitely excited and just bought some baby stuff which is making it feel a lot more real!

  • I am so excited for y’all! Congratulations! 🙂 🙂 Welcome back to the US! Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

    • Thank you! It was definitely nice to be back home, and I can’t wait to start talking about our trip! I thought that I’d be able to get a post up this week, but I ran out of time with everything else going on.

  • I’m so so excited for you and love that we can chat about all things pregnancy. 🙂 I can’t even imagine looking at that ultrasound and seeing two, but what a blessing! How far along are you right now?

    • We’re right at 16 weeks right now, so we’re almost to the point of finding out what we’re having, and I think that’s what I’m looking forward to the most now! And I love that I can talk about pregnancy stuff with you too! It’s so funny that you, Emelia, and I are all due within a couple of weeks of each other!

  • This is so crazy exciting! It is wild that twins don’t run in your families. I am really looking forward to reading your posts about pregnancy and baby. Traveling with babies is the question we get asked the most. I’m sure we will be similar to you, whenever the time comes- traveling nearby and thank God for built in babysitters!

    • Exactly! I know that both of our parents are so excited to have some more grand babies, so I think that they’ll be happy to babysit for us when we need to get out and go on a trip! I have to admit though, that the idea of traveling with two infants definitely terrifies, one was doable but two sounds scary, so we might do driving trips for a while until they get a little bit older. But we definitely don’t want to stop traveling!

  • Congrats!! I’m so ecstatic for you two and love how you made the announcement!! It’s crazy I found out my good friend was having twin girls the same week you made the announcement. Can’t wait to find out the genders!!

    • I saw the gender reveal that your friends had because I think that you or Kate posted it on Snapchat, and it was seriously so cute! I can’t wait to find out what we’re having too so we can start doing all the fun things like decorating the nursery!

  • So exciting! Twins!! Congratulations. They will be your favorite adventure.

  • Eeek I’m so excited for y’all!! I love the announcement. Can’t wait to follow along with your pregnancy.

    • Thank you! The trip came at the perfect time for us to make the announcement, and I loved the way that it turned out!

  • Whaaat?! Twins! That’s crazy- congratulations to you both!

  • Biana Perez

Such an amazing way to announce your pregnancy!! I’m so excited for you guys and twins – gah!! One of my best friends just had twins and it was a boy and girl 🙂 Hoping you have a continued healthy and wonderful pregnancy! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

    • Thank you so much! So far everything has been great with the pregnancy, and I hope it continues that way so I don’t have to go on bed rest or anything! The trip couldn’t have come at a more perfect time either because it was such the perfect way to announce for us!

  • So excited for y’all! I really hope you get one of each, that would be perfect! I am glad you are feeling well, and hope that continues. All of my friends didn’t miss wine with the first pregnancy either. Enjoy every minute!

    • That’s what we keep on saying about getting a boy and a girl too! Plus I think that we each want one gender so badly that I know that it would appease us both if we got a boy and a girl. I’m really surprised by how much I don’t miss wine!

  • Rachel

Congratulations, you guys! I was so excited when I saw this on IG and Snap, so happy for you! I cannot believe you are having twins either! And so crazy it doesn’t run in your family. It runs in both my side and my husband’s so who knows what will happen when we have kids! I think a boy and girl would be just perfect. Can’t wait to follow along! Congrats again!

    xo, Rachel
    A Blonde’s Moment

    • Thank you so much, and I can’t wait to share everything about this pregnancy, especially because I feel like it’s a little bit different than others. That’s so crazy that twins runs on both sides of the family! As Chris keeps on saying, afterwards he’s going to be afraid to touch me otherwise we might have twins again!

  • SO SO SO SO SO SO SO excited for you guys. I seriously was like, “OMG KC!!!!!!!!!!!” and told him. LOL I honestly think, and I may be crazy…., but twins first is awesome. Because if you have another baby someday, only one infant will feel like a blessing! heheh Praying Dart will be there to meet them too. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear more as you go along! XO – Alexandra

    Simply Alexandra: My Favorite Things

    • Thank you so much! We were so excited to finally tell everybody so that we could talk about it whenever we wanted! And that’s exactly how we felt about twins! We kept on saying that thank goodness two babies was first because it’ll be our normal, versus if we had one baby first two babies would have been so overwhelming! And thanks for your prayers! It’s amazing how good he’s been doing!

  • Soooo excited for you guys! I’m glad you’ve been feeling well- I’m still so exhausted and I think it’s because of how sick I’ve been. This was the cutest announcement ever and I can’t wait to hear what you’re having! We are doing our reveal July 1!! When are you? Yay for November babies! Congratulations my friend-xo!!!

    • I know that I got super lucky with not really being that sick during the pregnancy so far, but oh my goodness the exhaustion during the first trimester was so crazy! I was glad that it died down once I hit the second trimester though! We have our big anatomy scan on June 30th, so hopefully we’ll be able to find out then what we’re having, and then the plan is to have the gender reveal at the end of July when our families can be there. I’ll tell you what though, I’m going to be dying to know and don’t know how I’ll be able to do it! And November babies are seriously the best! I’m excited for having the holidays off!

  • I’m soooo excited for y’all! I think the pregnancy announcement pictures are the absolutely cutest things I’ve seen EVER. 🙂 So appropriate for some travel loving parents–and some soon-to-be tiny travelers! I hear you on the 1st trimester exhaustion: I had it so bad with both of my kids that I would be asleep by 9 most nights, and I just gave up on the blog since I could barely function enough to get through the day, much less write at night like I usually did. Brava to you for traipsing around Europe! I’m really looking forward to those monthly bump dates!

    • Thank you! I was seriously so surprised by how exhausted I was too, and it made me so thankful that I could sleep on the bus to and from work everyday, otherwise I don’t know what I would have done. Thankfully the trip came right during at the beginning of the second trimester so I wasn’t nearly as tired as what I had been. The roughest part was dealing with the jet lag once we got home! But the trip couldn’t have come at a more perfect time because it let us have the perfect announcement for us!

  • I’m so very happy for you both! I love how you announced it, so fantastic!! Being a twin is such a blessing and for that I do feel blessed. ! We are fraternal twins too and twins do not run in our family. In fact, our family til this day still calls us the “twins” and we still are the only twins in the family. Double trouble!! haha.

    • Haha that’s so crazy that it didn’t run in your family either! We’re really excited about having twins, and while it might be hard for the first couple of years, I think that it’s going to be so awesome to see the bond that our kids have! Plus I know that it’ll be a lot of fun for our families too since there are no other set of twins!

  • I was so excited when I saw this on instagram and was totally wondering about the twin thing!! CONGRATS AGAIN!!! So exciting!

    • Thank you so much! We’re still really surprised, but it’s starting to feel more real now that we’re actually buying things for the babies!

  • CONGRATS!! So excited for you guys and what a great way to announce all around Europe 🙂 Can’t wait to follow along on your new adventure!

    • Thank you! The trip couldn’t have come at a more perfect time for us to make the announcement, and I love the pictures that we got too!

  • Ahh, how exciting! Congrats! That’s crazy that twins don’t run in your family! Aww such happy news!

    • I know! I think that we must have asked the doctor 4 or 5 times if he was serious because we didn’t believe him at first!

  • CONGRATS!!! This is so exciting and I can’t wait to read all about it! I also loved your announcement via Instagram 🙂

  • Congratulations! What a cute way to announce it! I’m so excited for both of you!

  • Jen

Ahhhhh how did I miss this?!?!!? I am so beyond thrilled for you! You are going to be incredible parents. 🙂

    • Thank you! I know that you’ve been pretty busy with the move and everything, but now you know! We’re so excited, and can’t wait to share everything!

  • So many congratulations! I’m so excited for you both, what exciting news. I’m really glad to hear you’ve not had too terrible symptoms, that would have been such a bummer for your trip! And those photos you took are going to be so treasured. Yay for all 5 of you!

    • Thank you! I’m really surprised that I didn’t have too rough of a pregnancy so far, and the trip was kind of perfect timing since it was right after the start of my second trimester which meant that I wasn’t as tired as I had been! I also love how the pictures turned out too! I think that we’re going to frame the onesies with those pictures and put them in the nursery.

  • I read this post when it was posted but didn’t get a chance to comment.. What amazing news!!! Twins!! Awesome!! I hope you have a easy pregnancy!!!

    • Thank you! So far the pregnancy has been pretty easy compared to what others have experienced so I’m really thankful! I’m also really excited about what’s to come too!

  • So happy/excited for you!!!! and yay for dart being promoted to big brother!! 🙂
