Happy Friday everybody! It’s so hard to believe that it’s already been another month, so that means that it’s time for another bumpdate! To be honest, not a whole lot happened since the last bumpdate, except that I’m getting bigger by the day it seems. I’m also fully in maternity clothes now, which is so crazy to me! So let’s get on with the bumpdate!

Week 18- Life As Usual

I’ve definitely been going through life as normal right about now. I really don’t have any side effects from my “condition” as my friend Stacy likes to call being pregnant, which I think is absolutely hilarious! The only thing that I’ve started to deal with now is a little bit of acid reflux. To me it’s crazy what ends up causing it, I might eat something like eggs in the morning and then all of a sudden I have some acid reflux. I don’t know if it’s because I end up getting hungry and instead of hunger pains I get acid reflux instead. Either way, I’d say that I’m pretty lucky that’s the only thing that I’ve had going on.

The Wandering Weekenders- Bumpdate: Week 18 Through Week 21

Other than that, Chris and I have just been making our way through our “Before Babies” To Do List, and I’m so proud with how much progress that we’ve made! Who knew that having a baby was the thing that we needed to actually light a fire under our butts to get the things done around the house that we’ve been talking about for forever! Another advantage is that I’ve had most of these items on my 101 in 1001 list, so I’m getting some of those things accomplished as well!

Week 19- The BIG Ultrasound

I can’t believe that this is the week that we’re actually going to find out the genders of our babies, or at least my mom and sister are! We won’t find out until the end of July when we can have the majority of our families in town with us to share the news. We were honestly thinking about not letting my mom or sister know the genders until my sister’s birthday because my mom is notorious for not being able to keep a secret (I love you Mom, but you know it’s true!), but we ended up deciding that they could find out that day.

The Wandering Weekenders- Bumpdate: Week 18 Through Week 21

So we had probably the maximum amount of people crammed into the room during the ultrasound, and not only did my mom and sister get to find out the genders but we got to see our babies for a lot longer than we have in the past! The sonographer when through all of the different sections of their bodies and did all sorts of measurements to make sure that they were growing at the same rates and that their organs were functioning appropriately. Everything looked great, and the babies are weighing in at a whopping 7 ounces and 8 ounces each! So I officially have about a pound of baby baking right now!

Another thing that we found out during the ultrasound was that I have an anterior placenta, which means that my placenta is in the front instead of in the back or on the side. That also means that it’s going to take a little bit longer for me to feel the babies moving around in my stomach. Usually right about now I would be able to feel them moving around, but because this is my first time being pregnant and the anterior placenta I probably won’t be able to feel them for a couple more weeks.

And in case y’all are wondering, my mom and sister are doing great with the gender secret! Chris Facetimed them both the night after our visit and asked them for the genders and they stuck to their guns, even though they were both enjoying a glass of wine! I’m so proud, and I know that the reveal will get here before we know it!

Other than that it’s just been the same old same old. My stomach is getting bigger literally by the day, and I have to admit that as the days get hotter, the more I’m missing wine and cocktails. I think that it’s just because summer drinks like rosé and cocktails just go so perfectly with the warmer weather. Oh well, I’m almost half way there, so not too much longer now, right!

Week 20- Fifth Doctor’s Visit & Half Way There

I’m very excited to say that during my doctor’s visit they were able to find both heartbeats immediately! It’s seriously such a relief that I didn’t have to go through the stress of waiting around for an ultrasound to make sure that both babies were doing well. Although I will say that this was the first time that I went to a doctor’s appointment that I didn’t get an ultrasound, so that was kind of sad. I’ve gotten used to seeing my little babies all the time, and man do I sound spoiled!

The Wandering Weekenders- Bumpdate: Week 18 Through Week 21

Overall, the visit went pretty well, I’m up another 3 pounds, so I’m up a total of 7 pounds for this pregnancy. It’s still a lot to think about in such a relatively short amount of time, but I have to keep on telling myself that it’s normal and that I’m carrying 2 babies, so the weight gain is ok. So far I’ve been within what my doctor is expecting, so I’m going with that’s a good thing! He told me that he expects 5-6 pounds by the next time that I come in, and that’s going to be crazy to me if it actually happens!

At the visit I talked to my doctor about my anterior placenta and he told me that I should start to feel them by the time I come back for my next visit. He also said that with twins there will be a time that I’ll feel them moving around like crazy, but then I won’t feel them move around as much because they’ll basically run out of space to move around. That I think is going to be the weirdest thing ever!

The only other thing that’s been going on with me as far as pregnancy is concerned, besides being officially at the halfway point, is that I’m officially only in maternity pants, or pants that can be extended with a belly belt. My stomach is that big! And I think that we need to talk about how comfortable maternity pants are. They’re basically yoga pants that you can wear in public without going to yoga! They’re amazing! I’m definitely getting way to used to them!

Week 21- First Lake Trip

This past weekend was pretty exciting for us because it was our first weekend trip in a long time and we were heading to the lake with some of our friends. Unfortunately, another side effect of being pregnant is that you have to avoid certain bodies of water. At my last doctor’s appointment my doctor was going through summer activities that were ok for me, and of course one that he mentioned that was off limits for me was going to Galveston. I mentioned that we were heading to Canyon Lake and he said that it would he would rather me be safe than sorry so suggested that I don’t get in the water. Luckily for me, it wasn’t too hot and I still had a great time relaxing on the beach while everybody else did some swimming.

The Wandering Weekenders- Bumpdate: Week 18 Through Week 21

Other than that, it’s pretty much been business as usual around these parts lately, and the countdown is officially on until our gender reveal! Only a week left and Chris and I can’t wait! I have to admit that even though things have been going pretty well with this pregnancy, I have started to get one side-effect that I’m absolutely hating right now, sciatica. Basically there’s a nerve in your back that runs down your whole leg and sometimes when you’re pregnant the babies can put pressure on that nerve and it causes some pain.

So I noticed on Monday that after sitting down for a while that my hip would hurt when I would get up and walk around, and when I started googling sciatica was the first thing that popped up. They said that it was most common in the third trimester, but after a little more googling I found out that it normally starts earlier for women pregnant with multiples, so yay me! The good news is that I found a way to help it out, which is basically just getting up to walk a lot. I also changed my chair at work and that seems to help too. Hopefully this will pass, but I guess that I’ll just have to wait and see!

Well that’s all I wrote for this bumpdate! Like I said, not too much has happened between last bumpdate and this one, but don’t worry next time, I’m sure that I’ll have a lot more updates, especially since we’ll know the genders! So until next time!

  • Aww so exciting for your mom & sister to find out the genders! I’m so excited to hear what you guys are having. Also, kind of unrelated, but are you handwriting on the board every month?? It looks sooo good!

    • We’re so excited too, an I’m so proud that they’ve both been able to keep a secret with genders, especially with so many people pestering them to find out! And I actually found the signs on Etsy and every week the owner sends me a reminder email so I can get the newest one printed out. There’s no way that I’d be able to do all of that on my own, I’m not nearly that creative or artistic enough! https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1253273360

  • Jen

I am so excited for you guys to find out the genders! That is really when it set in for me that we were having a baby haha. 🙂 You look fantastic! 🙂 Oh and acid reflux is terrible, I had it really bad and eating plain pieces of bread always helped.

    • I feel like that’s when it’ll start to really feel more real for me too, especially since we’ll be able to actually call them by name now! And that’s such a great idea, to eat something plain! I’m notoriously obsessed with eating very spicy food, and I’m sure that’s what’s causing the majority of the acid reflux.

  • Can’t wait until you find out the genders! I hope you get to feel them soon. It’s the coolest feeling. I also have an anterior placenta, but this little guy is so active, I felt him for the first time for sure around 17 weeks (been feeling flutters since 15 weeks). I’m 26 weeks today, and he pretty much dances in there! Haha.

    • That’s so crazy! I think that I’ve started to feel them now, but I honestly have no idea! I just have this feeling that I’m not being observant enough to actually feel anything, but hopefully soon! And it’s less than a week until we find out and I can’t wait!

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Whoohoo the gender reveal is almost here. I just realized I thought you had mentioned having girls but I realized that I dreamt it! So I am super excited to find out too! Your bump update board is the absolute CUTEST and so are you! Just a DOLL YOU ARE! Pregnancy looks so good on you! Have a beautiful weekend.

    • Thank you! I’m loving the chalkboard signs that we bought and how cute they turn out every week! And both Chris and I have had dreams that we’re having two girls, so we’ll definitely have to see if our dreams are actually true or not! Less than a week until we find out! I’m so excited!

  • LOL at “your condition”. Too funny! Love the bumpdates and happy to hear things are going pretty smoothly. Good job wit your mom keeping the secret so far! I can’t wait to find out the genders. So exciting!

    • I know! It’s less than a week until we find out, and I seriously can’t wait! And I just about died when my friend called it her “condition” and it just stuck. It truly feels that way sometimes because I guess that it just doesn’t feel 100% real. Hopefully once we know the genders that’ll all change!

  • Nicole F

    Looking good momma!

  • Eek I can’t wait to hear the genders! I had an anterior placenta too. I can’t remember when I felt her move though. Oh and milk helped with acid reflux for me!

    • That’s good to know about the milk, I’ll definitely have to try it out! I know that part of the reason that I get it is because I’m obsessed with spicy food, but I just can’t stop. And less than a week until we find out the genders! I’m so excited!

  • I am so impatient when it comes to finding out genders, doesn’t matter whose kid it is, I have to know haha! One of my friends didn’t find out until she had the baby and I about died! Can’t wait to see your gender reveal post 🙂

    • Haha how in the world did she wait that long and not go crazy not being able to pick out gender related items? I think that Chris is more anxious than I am, but less than a week until we find out for sure!

  • You are legit adorable pregnant!! You totally have the glow.

  • It’s been very interesting to see the progression! (I must ask, who is the chalkboard artist?)

  • I love the chalkboard!! So cute 🙂

  • Omg you’re pregnant! And TWINS?! Congratulations!!! Man I’ve been missing out on the blog world haha.. I had baby #2 recently so that’s kind of why 😉 Anyway, I’m glad you’re feeling good =) I had anterior placentas with both of mine.. I didn’t feel movement until 23ish weeks with #1 so don’t worry if it takes a while =)

    • That’s really good to know! I feel like I’m starting to feel something, but I’m not sure if I’m imagining it or not. And congrats on baby #2! We’ve both missed out on a lot of what’s been going on lately!

  • If not a whole lot happened except you’re getting bigger I’d say you’re winning at the pregnancy game! Apart from the sciatica… I hope that doesn’t trouble you too much. Anyway glad things are going well and I am enjoying the cute maternity dresses!

    • I know! I definitely count myself lucky that things haven’t been too bad lately during this pregnancy! And after last week my sciatica really calmed down a lot which has been great! I did change my chair at work, and I think that really helped out a lot! And thank you! I’m so glad that my favorite store has maternity clothes because I’ve been able to get a few items that I know will work for me.

  • Rachel

I can’t believe you are already at the halfway point, Ashley! And so exciting that you get to find out the genders so soon! How funny about your mom and sister. I’m so impressed they were able to keep the secret…even while drinking wine! Can’t wait to hear about the reveal!

    xo, Rachel
    A Blonde’s Moment

    • Haha I know! My mom is definitely not known for keeping secrets, but I think that having somebody that she could confide in totally helped her out. And I seriously can’t wait to find out the genders! Saturday is going to be here before we know it!

  • oh they are just growing like weeds! so exciting. i love hearing about all the things bc well, you have two in there and it’s a bit of a different ballgame right? i cant believe you’re halfway and i cannot wait to hear what you’re having!

    xoxo cheshire kat

    • It’s definitely a little bit different having two, and with that, I’m so happy that so far the pregnancy hasn’t been too bad, especially after hearing about how hard some things were for friends! And even though it’s so weird to see my stomach get bigger and bigger, it makes me feel better to know that the reason is because I’m growing some healthy babies!

  • you look amazing girlfriend! i can’t wait to find out what you are having- i bet having twins is so cool i love love love your sign and am glad you are feeling well. take care!

    • Thank you! I’m definitely very thankful that things haven’t been too rough because I know how tough some pregnancies can be. And having two is definitely a lot of fun, but I have to admit that I know that I’m going to be a little bit freaked out once they actually get here too! And I love the signs too! It’s a little hard to keep on top of them, but I love how they turn out!

  • Nadine

Oh girl, I suffered TERRIBLY with sciatica. It started really early for me and it lasted my entire pregnancy, so my heart goes out to you. If you haven’t done so already, invest in a pregnancy pillow!!! I got a Snoogle around the 12-15 week mark and I still sleep with it today, almost 8 month PP. It was the ONLY thing that helped with the back and hip pain. Your bump is just the cutest! I dont know how you and Chris can wait to find out the gender after your mom and sister know. Chris and I had to find out in the waiting room and I was texting my sister on the walk to my car. (Only because my phone didn’t work in the doctor office.) I cant wait to hear what they are!!!!!

    • I know! I can’t wait to actually find out either! The only reason I think that we haven’t been freaking out yet is because my mom and sister have been pretty good about not holding it over our heads that they know the genders and we don’t. After Saturday though, it won’t matter! And I haven’t gotten a pregnancy pillow yet, but I’m thinking about just biting the bullet and buying it. I have started to sleep with a pillow between my legs which has helped a lot, and I changed my chair at work to something that’s harder but that gives me more support. So far that’s helped, but I still have to remind myself to get up and walk, otherwise I end up really stiff and start hurting.

  • GAHHHH I can’t wait until your gender reveal!!!!

  • I am so glad to hear that you and the babies are doing well! I love the signs you have next to each week’s picture and the little updates you write underneath. They are going to love seeing this one day!

    • I know! I’m hoping to make little pregnancy books for them that they’ll be able to keep once they’re all grown. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with things to say, but I like to put random things that are going on in our lives too, which I think will be good to show how life is for us at this point in our lives.

  • How exciting! I also have an anterior placenta and it made it hard for them to get good pictures of the baby this last ultrasound. Let’s hope when I go back they will be able to see the sex of the baby! My whole family suffers from sciatica and I have seen how horrible it is. I hope it gets better! So excited for you!

    • Thank you! And that’s what I’ve heard is the other bad part about having an anterior placenta, not being able to get good ultrasounds. My friend was told that doing the 3D ultrasounds weren’t even worth it because of her placenta and not being able to get a good picture. I hope that you’ll be able to get a clear picture when you go back so that you can know what gender you’re having! That’s the part I feel the most anxious for!

  • oh my gosh i am SO excited to find out the sex of your babies!! that’s so awesome that your mom & sister kept it a secret. my cousin was pregnant when i was like… 20? and my aunt (not her mother lol) didn’t want to know the sex, my cousin had told everyone and i brought it up in conversation and my aunt was so mad at me! but like, come on! seriously that was 10+ years ago and she still brings it up.anyway. hope things continue to go well (besides the sciatica, boo!) and i can’t wait to find out what you’re having 🙂

    • Haha I can’t believe that she still brings up the fact that you let it slip to her! I feel like there are some people that are really good at holding onto things, me being one of them, and they just won’t let bygones be bygones. I personally never understood the not wanting to know the gender of babies, especially your own. I feel like there’s so much out there that isn’t gender neutral that it’s almost harder to try and do something that could work for both sexes.
And the gender reveal is this weekend, and I seriously can’t wait! Believe me there will be social media posts and a blog post about it too!

      • i know! i’ve always wanted to not find out the sex of our kids when we have them, at least the first, but i KNOW 100% i will not be able to help it. i like the idea of the surprise, and that people won’t buy you girl or boy specific gifts, but i know me. i’ll go in thinking NO i do not want to know the sex, the person will ask and I will scream TELL ME NOW. haha.

  • Can’t wait for the gender reveal – I’m sure you guys have something awesome and Pinterest worthy planned for it…!! Hehe Love that dress on your 21 wk picture and you’re glowing!! That’s great that you’re having a pretty easy pregnancy so far!!

    • Haha I wish that I could say that I had something totally awesome planned for the gender reveal, but my mom and sister did most of the decorations and the planning, so I’m just along for the ride. But what can I say, I know that I’m going to love everything, and I can’t wait for Saturday! And thank you so much! That’s actually a maternity dress, and I love how cute it is!

  • So exciting! I can’t wait to know the sex of your babies!! 🙂 hehe Good secret keeping! I would have such trouble with that! 🙂 heheh You look so cute, it’s crazy how fast it seems like it’s going! XO – Alexandra

    Simply Alexandra: My Favorite Things

    • Haha I know! I definitely think that having both of them know helped out a lot because they could talk about it between the two of them. But after Saturday we’ll all know and I seriously can’t wait! And you’re telling me about how fast things are going! I can’t believe that I’m already over halfway done!
