Happy Labor Day everybody! I’m still weekending on this long first weekend of September, but I’m linking up with Andrea and the girls at The Blended Blog for their TBB Asks Back-To-School-Edition! So I hope you enjoy these questions that will take you on a little trip down memory lane!

The Wandering Weekenders- TBB Asks September- Back To School Edition

  1. Did you love school or hate it?
Even though I groaned about having to wake up early, I really did love school. I loved getting new clothes and all of the new school supplies too!
  2. Start school before or after Labor Day?
In Texas we always started school before Labor Day. Things have changed a little bit since I was in school, but we always started early August and got out of school way before Memorial Day. Now the kids normally start late August, still before Labor Day and get out closer to Memorial Day, sometimes afterwards.
  3. Wake up: eager beaver or slow poke?
I definitely was a lot easier to wake up when I was younger than I am now, although I definitely think that part of my problem now is that I have social media to look at when I wake up in the morning.
  4. Favorite breakfast?
I’m not a huge breakfast person at all, so I usually just stuck with cereal or toast for breakfast during school. That being said, if I’m going to eat breakfast, I’m always going to go for breakfast tacos because they’re the best!

  5. Favorite cereal?
Frosted Mini Wheats or Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

  6. School uniform or no school uniform?
We had those amazing school uniforms that included the pleated skirts…
  7. New outfit for first day or no?
When we didn’t have uniforms we always had a new outfit for school, and my mom always took a picture of us on the first day.
  8. Walk to school or ride the bus?
In Elementary School we always walked to school since we weren’t on a bus route, but when I started going to private school they didn’t have a bus route so my dad would drop me off.
  9. Backpack, tote or messenger bag?
Always a backpack, even in college!
  10. Eat school lunch or pack lunch?
I had a pretty good mix of both, but usually my mom would pack my lunch 3 or 4 days a week and then normally I’d get pizza on Fridays.
  11. Remember the little milk cartons? White or chocolate?
Yes! And I’m a white milk girl always!
  12. Paper bag or lunch box?
Lunch box! It was always so much fun to get to pick out a new one every year!
  13. Favorite thing to do at recess?
We always used to play games with each other which included a lot of tag.
  14. Favorite back to school supply item?
I always loved new markers and colored pencils.
  15. Chalkboard or dry erase marker?
Dry erase markers. I hated the mess that chalk made.
  16. Regular pencil or mechanical?
  17. Homework as soon as you got home or afternoon?
I’m still a little bit of a procrastinator, but I usually tried to get my homework done after I got home from school. If it was writing a paper, I usually got that done closer to the due date.
  18. Favorite after school snack?
    Those Little Debbie’s Cosmic Brownies

  19. Favorite after school show?
My sister always loved to watch Doug and Rugrats after school!

  20. Favorite subject in school?
    Math, I am an accountant!
  21. Least favorite school subject?
I was never a huge fan of science.
  22. Name of your best friend in high school?
  23. High school mascot type?
    We were the Cougars
  24. SAT or ACT?
I took both, but did way better on the SAT since I forgot my calculator for the ACT.
  25. Favorite year in school?
My senior year! It was so much fun, and I couldn’t wait for college!
  26. Class Ring or no Class Ring?
I got a class ring, but I didn’t wear it after high school. I still wear my college ring, but that’s because the Aggie Ring is kind of a big deal.

  27. Attend or not attend high school reunion?
I have not attended any high school reunions. I don’t really keep in contact with that many people from school.

And there you have it! Are any of your answers similar to mine? Did you look forward to school starting?

  • Living on Cloud Nine

LOVED reading your answers! It was fun to reminisce! I was pretty sure you were a Math girl too! I forgot about Frosted mini wheats..yum! I hope you’re having a sweet day off pretty mama!

    • It really was so much fun! I loved the start of school and always looked forward to it. And Frosted Mini Wheats are seriously the best! They have it at the office sometimes and I love it!

  • Yes to breakfast burritos!

  • Yes!!! I forgot all about Doug! I loved that show!

  • Katie Mitchell

Breakfast burritos?!? YUM!! Such fun answers! And it’s great that you still wear your ring!!

    • The Aggie ring is a big deal in Texas, and it’s amazing how many doors will open for you if somebody notices that you’re wearing an Aggie ring. And I could eat breakfast burritos all the time!

  • I really didn’t care for school, but definitely loved shopping for back to school clothes & supplies. Those breakfast tacos look delicious– I had never had breakfast tacos (it was a burrito) until we were in San Diego a few weeks ago! So good! I used to love Doug too!

    • I think that I really loved the shopping aspect of going back to school too. It was so much fun to get the new clothes, a new backpack, and all the new school supplies too! And I’m so glad that you got to experience a breakfast taco/burrito! I swear that’s the only way that I actually eat eggs in the morning, rolled up in a tortilla with cheese, salsa, and some sort of meat.

  • I’m always jealous because it feels like you guys are out soo early!

  • Frosted mini wheats are the bomb.com!

    • They totally are! Our office has cereal out in the mornings, and I always get so excited when there’s frosted mini wheats!

  • I think I have mixed feelings about school simply because I was always starting a new one it felt! I definitely dreaded waking up early back then and I still do. HA You know what, I honestly can’t remember if I had a backpack my last 2 years of HS. Hmm. I definitely had a messenger bag in college. Oh, memories!

    • That would be so hard to have to start a new school a lot. I remember I hated it when my parents put me in a private school for junior high and high school because I was separated from all of my friends. And I feel like I had a messenger bag at one point in time, but I always ended up going back to backpacks.

  • Nadine

Oh man, you have me wanting a breakfast taco so bad right now! I always loved back to school shopping and picking out all new supplies each year. I was mostly a backpack girl too. I tried to make a messenger bag a thing for a little while and I always found myself going back for the backpack!

    • That’s exactly how I was with a messenger bag too, I think that I tried it out, but always ended up going back to a backpack. And I swear I could eat breakfast tacos every morning, but I’d gain so much weight!

  • YES to Cinnamon Toast Crunch haha- one of my faves too. I rocked a uniform too and was also a white milk girl! Ethan and I still love cosmic brownies- I buy them for his lunch 😉

    • Cosmic brownies are seriously the best! Chris’s favorite snack was oatmeal cream pies, and he still buys them and goes to town on them when he gets home from work sometimes!

  • Lauren Scorzafava

I love these kinds of posts! They’re so fun! Thanks so much for sharing!

I loved school as well. I didn’t like the social aspect of it though, I truly enjoyed learning. I focused more on the academic relationships with my teachers and tried to ignore all the other stuff.

    • I enjoyed the learning as well. I was such a nerd to the core, and always loved getting to learn about as much as possible!

  • Rachel

This was such a fun post! I loved reading all your answers. I totally forgot about Cinnamon Toast Crunch! That was a close second to the Reese’s Puff Cereal for me. I have never had a desire to go to a high school reunion. I don’t keep in touch with many people I graduated with either. My husband is the same way! Also, I can’t believe you forgot your calculator for the ACT! It’s a good thing you liked math, I would have done awful since I’m not much of a math lover haha! Hope you guys had a great Labor Day weekend!

    A Blonde’s Moment

    • I totally blame the left at home calculator for my school, otherwise I’m sure that I would have done a little bit better, although I really didn’t do that bad. And my husband and I are kind of the same way, we don’t keep in contact with people from high school, except for the people that we want to see, so we don’t feel the need to go to the reunions. And Cinnamon Toast Crunch, there’s nothing better! Sometimes they have it in the kitchen at the office, and I get way too excited!

  • OMG how could I forget about Doug and all the Nickelodeon shows….Rug Rats was funny too! Ugh to ugly school uniforms but the silver lining was not having to find a new outfit everyday 🙂 I appreciate that now looking back!

    • I do too! I swear that it makes it harder for me to pick out clothes for work now because I didn’t have to worry about what I wore in high school. And the Nickelodeon shows were so awesome! I feel like they’re not nearly as cool right now as they were back then.

  • Oh I forgot how much I love Cinnamon Toast Crunch!! So good.

  • This is such a fun prompt! Oh, the back-to-school days – how I miss them! I definitely was that kid that couldn’t wait for school, and I’m with you on always a backpack!

    • I really enjoyed all of the hype that went with going back to school, and I also couldn’t wait for the normalcy that school always brought too. This was a lot of fun to go back and reminisce about the good ole days!

  • I loved school too! 🙂 heeh And in Kansas we always started in Mid-August as well. I still get excited at back to school time and for fall clothes. 🙂 XO – Alexandra

    Simply Alexandra: My Favorite Things

    • Me too! The only thing that I hate about back to school time now is all the traffic, but I still love the fact that it means the start of fall! It was so weird this year because all of the kids started later because of Harvey, so I’ll be interested to see if they have to go later.
