The time is finally here everybody, the time to show off our woodlands nursery for our girls! I felt like Chris was such a champ during this whole pregnancy with thinking about and researching all of the practical things that we’d need for our girls like the car seats and the strollers, but I knew that as soon as we found out the genders that I’d get into full on baby mode and start planning out all the “fun” things like their nursery and clothes and just generally the more aesthetic side to having babies.

The Wandering Weekenders- Our Twin Girls Woodlands Nursery

Before we found out the genders we had already started talking themes for the nursery. Our house is a 4 bedroom house with the master being on the first floor and three bedrooms upstairs. From the day that we had moved into our house we already knew which room would be the nursery, and we were planning on keeping the other two rooms as guest bedrooms. Even after we found out that we were having twins, we wanted our babies to share a nursery because from what I’ve read about twins, you want to keep them on the same schedule, so having them sleep near each other is ideal.

Anyways, the themes that we had decided on before we found out the genders were a woodlands/adventure theme for two boys, for two girls I was all about a princess theme, and with a boy and a girl we wanted to do a travel theme. Well after we found out the genders I started going back and forth in my head because I wasn’t able to really find any super cute princess themed stuff that I loved, but I found some really cute woodlands themed items for little girls. I had no problem selling Chris on that theme since he’s a hunter and loves supporting anything that even remotely includes deer or deer antlers!

I originally started my search for the nursery decor that was all things girly and woodlands on Pinterest, which of course led me to Etsy, which led me to spending maybe a little bit more money than I should have, but at the end of the day it was all worth it! The furniture and how to actually set up our nursery was actually a little bit harder than I had imagined, so we decided to get some help from Pottery Barn. Did you know that Pottery Barn actually has a design service that will come to your house for free to help you design a room? We tried it out a couple of years ago when we first moved into our house to get some ideas on colors for the walls and drapes, and we had the best experience. I knew that I wasn’t going to have any idea how to fit everything into the nursery logistically, so we knew that the Pottery Barn design services would be our best friend.

The Wandering Weekenders- Our Twin Girls Woodlands Nursery

We had somebody come over the weekend after we found out genders, and when she looked at the room that we had slated for the nursery, she kind of deflated our bubble a little bit when she told us that it might not work that well for the nursery. The problem was that we had two walls with windows and one with doors/door frames, which make it hard for furniture placement. Thankfully the other guest room was just on the other side of the shared bathroom, so we decided to just flip the rooms. After that the furniture placement came pretty easily with the designer’s help, and we got some great ideas for furniture as well.

Originally Chris and I were planning on using a lighter natural wood for the furniture in the nursery, but when we received some free white cribs from my mom’s doctor who also had twins it was easy enough to switch to white furniture. The bookshelf and the dresser/changing table were recommendations of the designer so we bought those from Pottery Barn, but the chair we actually bought from a local store called Baby’s First. This chair is a little wider than normal chairs and is apparently perfect for twins, which is why we fell in love with it. We also got to pick a color, and ended up falling in love with the beautiful light grey.

I honestly thought that we’d be fine just choosing bedding from a big box store like Buy Buy Baby or Target, but when I went to search online, I honestly couldn’t find any quilts or anything that I loved. Then I turned to my best friend and black hole, Etsy, and immediately started finding prints and fabrics that I loved. The only problem was that everything was so EXPENSIVE, especially when you realize that you have to double the price because you need two of everything.

The Wandering Weekenders- Our Twin Girls Woodlands Nursery

Thankfully I stumbled upon Laci’s shop Dappled Daydreams and she was a lot more reasonably priced, and what I loved was that she worked with me the whole time that she was making the bedding for the girls and gave her opinion. Sometimes it’s hard to exactly visualize what the finished product is going to look like, but she did such a good job of sending samples pictures to me and telling me exactly why she thought that it would look better one way over the other. The other advantage was that she gave us a twin discount too! Laci actually shipped us our bedding right before Harvey hit and messaged me the whole time to make sure that we were ok, and to let me know when she got the notification that our bedding had arrived! Chris and I were so incredibly giddy when we opened up the packaging, and I can’t say enough how beautiful everything is and how much we loved it! Plus she was sweet enough to include something a little extra for us, a changing pad cover! If you’re shopping for nursery bedding, definitely make sure to check out Laci’s shop Dappled Daydreams, you won’t be disappointed!

For the decorations, I found a few wooden pieces on Etsy that I fell in love with immediately and purchased those as quickly as I could because I knew that they’d take a while to make and ship. The signs above their cribs with their names on them I found just by searching through Etsy and immediately fell in love with them! They’re so incredibly beautiful and I loved how they turned out! We also stumbled upon this adorable bear rug on Pinterest and Etsy and Chris and I both just melted and had to order it for the girls’ nursery.

I knew that I wanted some animal prints in the nursery as well with a little mixture of words as well, and I had no problem finding a wide variety of them that were available for instant download on Etsy. It might have been a little hard to get Chris to agree on which ones would be perfect for the nursery, but in the end I loved everything we chose!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our Twin Girls Woodlands Nursery

Surprisingly, I felt like one of the hardest decisions that Chris and I had when it came to the nursery was deciding on what frames we were going to use for all the prints we ordered. We looked all over, from Overstock to Pottery Barn to Wayfair and honestly couldn’t find any frames that were a more natural color that were actually reasonably priced. So in the end we decided to get some cheap frames from Amazon that were the same as the frame that I was using for my monthly bumpdate picture. While they definitely weren’t the cutest or prettiest, they’ll definitely work for what we need them to.

The last piece of the nursery puzzle ended up being a suggestion by Chris. As you know, we recently lost Dart a couple of months ago, and both Chris and I were so incredibly upset because we know how good of a big brother he would have been to our two baby girls. At Christmas last year, my sister bought me this picture of a whippet that looked just like Dart with antlers and deer on his head. We hadn’t decided where to put it in the house just yet, but since there were antlers involved, Chris thought that it would fit perfectly in the girls’ nursery since it worked with the theme. I couldn’t have agreed more, so we decided to put Dart up right in between their cribs to show that he’s always watching over them.

Once we had everything picked out and ordered, the fun part came of putting everything in the right spot in the nursery. Chris and I spent about 30 minutes one evening just laying out all the prints and other wooden signs that we had ordered to make sure that we didn’t have too much wood in one area or too many animals or too many words, and then Chris spent one day during lunch when he was working from home putting all of those signs up on the walls. I instantly fell in love, and couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out and looks! Then a couple of weekends ago, Chris and I spent a few hours putting away all of their diapers and clothes and everything else that we had received from our showers, so the nursery just feels complete. Which is perfect because technically the girls could come any day now!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our Twin Girls Woodlands Nursery

Anyways, sorry for the super long post about how we decided on everything, but to be honest, it was hard to find a really comprehensive list for setting up twin girl nurseries. We were able to find a lot of pretty pictures online, but I guess that nothing was exactly what we were looking for. Below are the links to everything that we bought for the nursery, a lot of items were from Etsy shops. Any direct download prints that we bought we got printed on cardstock from Shutterfly. Thank goodness for Shutterfly constantly having 40% off sales, am I right? If you’ve made it to the end of this post, you’re a champ, and if you’re expecting girls and want a woodlands theme, I hope that I’ve given you some inspiration!

All the little details of our twin girls woodlands nursery! From the furniture we chose and how we arranged it to the prints and frames we used.

  • Living on Cloud Nine

I am over the moon for their nursery! It’s perfect and I love the thoughts and love behind it! Love the colors and wall decor, love it all! You guys did soooo good!

    • Thank you so much! This was definitely my baby before the babies and I love how everything turned out and how it all came together!

  • The nursery looks fabulous! I love the idea of the theme — everything from the bedding to the prints are just perfect. But my favorite piece is the Dart print watching over them. That is so incredibly sweet. I have heard Etsy has amazing nursery accessories, including the bedding. You guys did an awesome job! Not much longer until the girls will be in that gorgeous nursery! Have a great weekend, Ashley!

    A Blonde’s Moment

    • Thank you so much! I definitely spent countless hours browsing Pinterest for ideas and then going down the Etsy rabbit hole to try and find the perfect pieces for our nursery, which I think that we did find! I honestly didn’t even think about that picture of Dart until Chris mentioned it, and it couldn’t be more perfect!

  • Emily Dunham

Your nursery is absolutely gorgeous!!! I LOVE the signs above the cribs and that sweet gift to make it feel like Dart is there and loving over the girls is the icing on the cake. So awesome!

    • Thank you so much! I randomly found those signs on Etsy and I’m so glad that I did because they fit in so perfectly! And I love that he’ll always be with us, no matter what.

  • love this! it’s totally you guys and it’s perfect. love the white that you chose – good call. and seriously pottery barn design services are the best! i haven’t used them yet (as i am still in an apt) but heard rave reviews. the details are awesome – right down to the dart twin print!

    xoxo cheshire kat

    • You totally should use them when you feel like you’re ready! Obviously they’ll tell you everything Pottery Barn that you need to buy, but you’re definitely not obligated to buy what the suggest and can use their ideas on something a little more affordable. And I’m so glad that we went with white as well! It just makes everything together I think.

  • Just adorable. I spotted that Dart pic before you said it, perfect addition to the room. I love the colors and the patterns and the animals, perfect for the two of you and for two true Texas little gals! Have a great weekend!

    • That’s exactly what I was thinking too! I really did want something princess-y, but I think that the nursery turned out way better this way. Plus it let us have that picture of Dart which really did just fit in so perfectly. I know that my sister knew that I would love it, but I don’t think that she realized how truly perfect it was!

  • Oh my gosh, this turned out so perfect! I love the more girly spin on the woodland theme. All of the animal prints are so cute, and I especially love the Dart inspired picture your sister got you. I’m just starting to look at decor things a little bit, and Etsy can be like a black hole because there are so many things to choose from.

    • I feel like that’s the main problem with Etsy and Pinterest, there’s so many ideas and so many of them can be just so overwhelming! I always said that I was thankful that I didn’t get married when Pinterest was a thing because I didn’t think that I would have been able to make any decisions! But now I get to deal with it with all things baby! Anyways, I think that if you can decide on a theme and then maybe pick a few things that you want to incorporate in the room and then that way you don’t run the risk of going too overboard. Because believe me, I definitely almost went overboard on pictures and stuff in their room!

  • I looove this! The woodland theme is one of my favorite for a nursery. I love all the prints and the furniture. It all looks great!! Awesome job!

    • Thank you! I’m so glad that we ended up going with this theme over the princess theme because it just seems to fit us so much better! Plus I love all the animals everywhere! Now it’s just waiting for them to get here!

  • Nadine

I love love love the theme you picked out!!! This has to be the prettiest and most precious woodland nursery I have ever seen. All the pictures you picked are so perfect. And I absolutely love that you were able to put Dart in there. That picture is amazing! Those name signs are gorgeous!!! And that bear rug??? I die! So cute! You have the perfect place to bring your little girls home too. I am sure you will be spending lots of time in there. I didn’t know that Pottery Barn offered a design service like that. So awesome. Etsy is seriously dangerous, right??? I just ordered Zoe’s first birthday outfit on there after spending about 5 hours searching and narrowing it down and finally deciding lol.

    • That’s about how long I spent trying to find their going home outfits, which I’m not even sure that they’ll be able to fit into at this point in time! And it’s so funny because we thought that we had all of our different themes picked out for all three options for our babies, but then when I started looking up princess themed stuff it just didn’t feel right and the woodlands theme was just freaking adorable that I couldn’t say no! Plus it was really easy to convince Chris that we should use it! I swear that room is the prettiest and the cleanest in our whole house, and now we just have to wait until they get here! I can’t wait until we get to introduce them to their room that we spent so much time preparing for them!

  • I’m absolutely obsessed with this theme! So many little girls rooms come off looking the same, that I love how unique this is mixed with their dad’s hobby but with a beautiful feminine touch <3

    Green Fashionista

    • Thank you! I’m so glad that I ended up going with the woodlands theme instead of the princess theme because it ended up so adorable, plus I knew that Chris would love it! I was surprised by how much there was out there for a woodlands themed nursery and it definitely took me a while to figure out what all we actually needed in the nursery.

  • The nursery turned out SO amazing! I love that you incorporated what Chris loves into the nursery but in a girly way. So perfect! Those prints are so cute! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

    • When I started looking up pictures of girly woodlands themed nurseries on Pinterest I fell in love and I knew that it would be easy enough to convince Chris that we needed to do it! It took a little while to piece everything together, but I love how it all turned out!

  • I love that y’all created your own theme. So cute! Everything is so unique and came together so perfect. I didn’t know PB offered a design service either, but I love that y’all took advantage of it. We were shopping at La-Z-Boy and found out they offer a free design service also. They’ll come take measurements and help you design your rooms.

    • All of those design services are so great to take advantage of, especially if their free! I’m definitely no expert when it comes to design, so I like to get all the help that I can get! And I still can’t believe how great everything turned out! We just love it!

  • This is such an adorable room! I absolutely love all the woodland prints.

    • Thank you so much! It took a while to get everything picked out, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out!

  • oh my gosh! love this. what a beautiful nursery. they’ll be here before you know it!

    • I know! We hit 36 weeks today which was my doctor’s initial goal, which means that they’ll be here sooner than we realize!

  • Oh my goodness! Their nursery looks absolutely adorable!!! I love the theme and colors you picked out. Everything look so welcoming and cozy! Now it’s just time for them to make their grand entrance into this world! Have a great weekend!

    • Thank you so much! It’s still so crazy to me how soon they’re going to be here, but at the same time I’m very excited too! It definitely took us a while to figure out all the pieces that we wanted, but now I can’t wait until they get here so they can be in their nursery!

  • Everything came out so well girlie!! I love the color scheme, and the frames on the prints are absolutely gorgeous!! You’re almost ready for those sweet girls to get here!! <3

    • I know! It’s scary to think that they’re almost here, but at the same time, I can’t wait! Having the nursery done just makes it feel that much more real!

  • I love the woodland theme, I’m not crazy about super girly princess-y things myself. I know I’ve probably already said it but I love, love the girls names. Both of them were names we liked for Leighton too.

    • Thank you! It amazed me how much more was out their for a woodlands theme as opposed to a princess theme. Or I guess how much more I actually liked! And thank you! I was surprised by how quickly we were able to agree on the first names because they were so pretty, it just took us a while to figure out middle names.

  • Jen

I absolutely love how everything turned out! What a beautiful nursery for two precious girls!

  • The nursery looks fantastic! I love all the decor you chose 🙂

  • These girls are going to love their sweet little room! You guys did a fantastic job – I love all the details. I’m so glad you wrote about that print that looks like Dart – I thought you had someone draw a picture of him! It’s so sweet where you put it, too.

    • I hope that they do, although they probably won’t appreciate it until they’re older and have to do something similar themselves! We honestly hadn’t thought about getting somebody to draw a picture of Dart and had almost forgotten about this picture, but I’m so glad that we remembered and were able to incorporate it into the room. My sister seriously nailed the print last year because it looks just like him!

  • OMG!! I LOVE it! Looks so whimsical and so dang sweet! You guys did an amazing job!!!

    • Thank you so much! I probably spent way too much time on Etsy and Pinterest, but I think that in the end it all worked out because we love everything so much!

  • This room is so adorable! I just love those signs. And yeah, maybe you splurged on some stuff, but look how great it turned out. And you’ll only get to decorate your twin girls first nursery once, so go all out I say. I’m glad you and Chris agreed on the decor, too! That is no mean feat!

    • We had already talked about themes before we knew the gender, but when I started researching princess themed items I didn’t find that much that I loved, but I found a ton of woodlands themed stuff that I loved and I knew that it wouldn’t be hard to convince Chris that we needed to change our theme. And that’s exactly how I feel too! I mean I don’t like to say never, but these girls might be our only kids so I might as well splurge a little bit! Plus we had some help anyways with getting a few free items!

  • OMG I love it!! Looks so, so good!! And their names! LOVE THEM.

    • Thank you so much! We love how it all ended up coming together, and I can’t wait to actually see them in their nursery!

  • It looks great!

  • OMG! I love it! and i love the names!!! I am so excited for you!!!!

    • Thank you so much! I can’t believe how soon their going to be here, and I can’t wait to see them in their nursery!

  • Laci Chung

Hi Ashley! I am completely amazed at how magazine perfect your nursery turned out!! I can’t tell you how much I loved reading that you and your husband loved the crib bedding! I can’t say enough how honored I am that you chose my shop for such special items. It makes me deliriously happy (had to explain to my husband why I was crying while reading your blog, happy tears!) to know that the things I make are being met with as much love as they are sent with!! I’m wishing the best for your soon-to-be family of four!!
    Laci @DappledDaydreams

    • And we can’t thank you enough for all of your help with the picking out the patterns and how beautiful everything turned out! The bedding couldn’t have turned out more perfectly, and now all we need is our little girls and the nursery will be complete! I’m definitely not the best when it comes to picking out things that will all go together, so I’m so thankful that you were so helpful with showing us what worked the best! Seriously, all the bedding is perfect and we can’t thank you enough!

  • Oh my gosh, I have been SO out of the loop I didn’t realize you guys were expecting. Congrats! This nursery is just gorgeous.

    xo Ashley
    http://www.ashleyringger.com

    • Thank you! Our girls will be here in just a couple of weeks, which is so crazy! It seems like I’ve been pregnant for forever, but at the same time it’s flown by so fast!

  • That is such a beautiful room! I love how much thought and care you guys put into preparing a lovely place for your two little ones to come home to! I’ve just started to begin thinking about how to set up the nursery for our little boy that’s on the way, but we’ve still got several months before he arrives, plenty of time, right? 🙂

    • You definitely still have time, just make sure that you factor in some delivery time for everything that you want in the nursery. We had some issues with getting things delivered because of Hurricane Harvey, but it all ended up working out ok. Plus I know that we ordered things pretty early on because the timeline with twins is just so up in the air. Just know that there’s a ton of stuff out there on Pinterest, but your nursery doesn’t have to all the things to be perfect!

  • oh my goodness, how adorable! love the little nickname map letters as well, so cute.

    • Thank you! My friends made those letters for their shower, and I loved that we got to incorporate them into their nursery!

  • So adorable!!!!
