I’m quickly learning that life with twins is anything but easy. The days sometimes seem to run together between all of the feedings and everything, but this past weekend was a little different because it was the first time that Chris was away from the girls for a hunting weekend with his brother and my dad. Thankfully my mom came and stayed with me this weekend so I didn’t have to handle the girls all on my own, and she was seriously such a help! But since my days consisted of basically taking care of two little babies and that’s about it (except for my first time driving since my c-section since I was officially cleared by my doctor), I figured that it’d be fun to link up with Andrea and the others over at The Blended Blog for TBB asks for December! Plus it’s a great way to get me even more in the Christmas spirit!

TBB Asks December

  1. Real or Fake Tree?
I’m all about the fake tree because it’s just easier! We did real trees growing up, but it got to be such a hassle that we switched to just fake trees, and Chris and I have stuck with that tradition. We’re actually pretty obsessed with Christmas trees and ornaments, and we have three trees in our house!
The Wandering Weekenders- 12 Questions Of Christmas
  2. Favorite Christmas Cookie?
I love the peanut butter cookies that have the kiss in them. I don’t know why, but those always remind me of Christmas! For some reason, peanut clusters always remind me of Christmas too, and I always love making them when I have time!
  3. Home on Christmas Morning or Travel?
Growing up for the most part we always celebrated Christmas morning at home and then we’d either do Christmas lunch at our Aunt and Uncle’s house or our house, with it alternating every year. I definitely want to continue that with the girls because I feel like it’s so special to wake up in your own house and then come down the stairs to see what Santa has brought!
  4. Clear or Colored Lights?
Chris and I have this argument every year, but I’m all about clear lights and he’s all about colored lights! Thankfully two of our trees are clear lights, but we compromised with one of our trees because it’s clear and colored!
  5. Send Christmas Cards?
One of my favorite parts about Christmas is sending out our Christmas cards and receiving Christmas cards. We’re getting to the point where a lot of our friends are starting to have kids, and I’m going to love getting to see them grow up through Christmas cards!
  6. Favorite Christmas Present Received?
This is a tough one! I definitely remember one year for Christmas my parents installed cable in my room upstairs and told me that was my Christmas present for the year. I was pretty excited about since all I had before that was a TV with rabbit ears and a VCR which meant that I was constantly watching movies on repeat. I remember walking downstairs Christmas morning, not expecting anything really big and finding that my parents had gotten me a new TV too! It was really exciting! Another really great gift I’ve received is the picture of Dart with the antlers that my sister gave me last year. I literally almost cried when I saw it because it was so perfect, even more so now in the nursery. And finally, Chris is the king of gift giving and he surprised me one year with my brand new Macbook! I love being able to be in the living room with him and work on picture books or the blog on my Macbook!

  7. Favorite Christmas Present Given?
I totally didn’t know what to say for this category so I asked Chris what his favorite gift that I’ve given him was, and he said his noise canceling headphones so I’ll go with that. He travels so much that they’re really the perfect gift for him!
  8. Stockings or no stockings?
We always do stockings! It’s kind of a tradition every year what’s in our stockings, there’s always scratch off lottery tickets, a piece of fruit, a gift card, and something else small.
  9. Christmas PJ’s?
This was a tradition that we didn’t do growing up, but I love the idea of starting this with the girls. It would be fun to have them open up one present on Christmas Eve and all have matching or coordinating PJs to wear!
  10. Favorite Christmas carol?
This is such a tough one! I love Christmas music, especially Christmas Carols, and I don’t know if I can pick just one as my favorite! I love The First Noel and Little Drummer Boy and Do You Hear What I Hear. I will say that my absolute least favorite Christmas song is Christmas Shoes. It’s one of Chris’s favorite and we always argue about changing the station when it comes on!
  11. Favorite Holiday Tradition?
It will always be decorating the Christmas tree! The day after Thanksgiving we would always work with my mom to get all the decorations down and then we’d spend the whole day decorating. I absolutely love to do that now still with Chris, but decorating the tree is still my favorite! Chris and I get a new ornament from everywhere that we travel, and I absolutely love putting those ornaments on the tree and remembering where we’d traveled and the fun stories from those trips!
  12. Early Shopper or Last Minute?
I really try to be an early shopper and will sometimes get most of shopping done on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, but this year I’m thinking that I’ll be a very last minute shopper! I really need to spend some time actually thinking about what to get friends and family so I can order those gifts online!
  13. Favorite Christmas Movie or Show?
One of my all time favorite movies that we can’t not watch during Christmas is Love Actually! It just makes me so happy! I also love Elf and can’t pass the season without watching it and basically quoting the entire movie!
The Wandering Weekenders- TBB Asks December
  14. Favorite Holiday Beverage?
I have to go with my Starbucks drinks for this question! I love Peppermint Mochas and Caramel Brûlée Lattes and get them all the time! Other than that I really can’t think of any holiday drinks that I can’t live without, although the one holiday drink that I can’t stand definitely has to be eggnog! Gross!
  15. Cookies and Milk for Santa?
We would always leave some cookies and milk for Santa, and sometimes even some carrots for the reindeer! We’ll definitely be doing the exact same thing with our girls!

Well I definitely am a lot more in the Christmas spirit now! I can’t wait to address my Christmas cards that are coming in the mail on Wednesday, and to officially get to shopping too!

  • aw christmas this year is gonna be so sweet. i sure hope you put those babes in matching pjs 🙂 yes to the cutest christmas cards and stockings and fun trees all around. also glad you had some help over the weekend and are cleared to drive – the little things!

    xoxo cheshire kat

  • My husband and I have the same argument over lights! I love the white lights, and he’s all about the colored ones, so we typically end up doing both 😉

  • Christina Sotherden

This is such fun! With our first real tree this year I’ll definitely say that fake trees are so much easier, ha! I love Christmas cards – checking the mail in december is so much fun!

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Yay, so glad you did this, I loved reading your answers! Just think of all the fun memories and traditions you’ll make with the girls! The drawing of Dart with the antlers is amazing. I know how much you miss him. So glad your mama came to help. I hope you and your precious Fam of 4 have a great week!

  • I was thinking last night (as I put the tree up) that a good looking fake tree is a godsend compared to the nonsense with the real trees. lol. I love the ease of this!! Love that picture of Dart. It cracks me up!! I’m still waiting for it to get cold enough in Dallas for a peppermint hot chocolate, but that’s my favorite drink of the season! Also, homemade cinnamon rolls… which reminds me. I need to plan on those this year since we’re hosting at home!!

  • These are just so fun! Your holiday treats are my favorites, too – I only started making the peanut butter kiss cookies a couple years ago, and now it’s tradition! Now I want to go watch Love Actually – that movie really is one of the best! And white/clear lights all the way!

  • Glad your mom was able to help you out when Chris was gone! It does sound tough, you are Wonder Woman! 🙂 I love everything about Christmas. I love colored lights and white lights. I love all the songs, in almost every genre. Love it all. 🙂 Stockings are the best! I love Love Actually, and the Holiday too! 🙂 XO – Alexandra

  • I totally forgot about peanut butter blossoms– but now I really want to make some! One year I did a chocolate cookie with the mint kisses and they were really good too. What an awesome extra gift from your parents- I can only imagine how exciting that must have been to get something so big when you weren’t expecting anything else. So nice that your mom was able to come and visit to help out with Chris being gone this weekend– I’ve already started to slightly worry about that happening if my husband has to travel for work after we have the baby.

  • Nadine

I am with you, I prefer clear lights and fake trees. I love that you guys have three trees and one of them is colored though. I would probably do that if we had a few trees. It has been a long time since I have had a peanut butter cookie with the kiss in it. Yum! That picture of Dart is seriously the coolest thing. I have a puggle picture that I want to hang in honor of Gracie. I just need to get that room repainted first! Christmas cards with kiddos is one of my favorite things in December, seeing them all grow! Glad you survived your first time alone sans husband with the girls.

  • Clear lights!! Oh, you are killing me. I say that and I just realized that my white tree this year has clear lights on it. hahah. I totally forgot about those Peanut Butter Cookies, oh those are so good. I actually just went to a Christmas party and they had them and I think I ate like five of them in a row. SO GOOD!

  • I’m with you on the fake trees and clear lights. My husband is exactly the opposite, real tree and colored lights haha! I’m allergic to real trees so we don’t really have a choice on that one. But when it comes to the colored light, I refuse! Our neighbor just put up different sets of colored lights (the colors don’t match!) and it’s driving me crazy. It just looks like a bar to me haha! That’s great your mom was able to stay with you this weekend while the guys were hunting! And yay for driving for the first time! Happy Monday, Ashley!

  • Glad you had help this weekend while Chris was away! Bring on all the Christmas cookies, and I love watching all the kiddos grow up with Christmas cards each year <3

    Green Fashionista

  • I have weird rules for Christmas lights: colored ones on the outside and clear ones on the inside is the only acceptable combination for me.

And fake tree forever and ever.

  • This is so much fun! I might copy you and answer these questions myself! My family would always go cut down a Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving in Connecticut. This year Nick and I decided to carry on the tradition, so yesterday we went and cut down a tree in Hawaii! It’s very different from anything you will find on the mainland but I love it!

  • Biana Perez

Yay for being cleared to drive!! I basically watch the holiday and love actually every single year -they never get old! I think stockings are some of the most fun gifts to buy! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

  • Yay for being able to drive, I know that must be a relief! I love Love Actually this time of year too! And yes, clear lights for life. I think colored lights really do only exist for men, hee hee!

  • Jen

We always left carrots for the reindeer as well! I was always concerned about what they would eat haha.

  • I agree that a fake tree is so much easier. The real ones have gotten sooo expensive, too! Merry Christmas!

  • Ashley Angle

Yay for getting to drive again! Loved reading this and hearing about your traditions! Hope you’ll post your Christmas card this year! Double cuteness!
    Ashley @ A Cute Angle// acutelifestyle.blogspot.com

  • I love reading about other people’s traditions. Christmas shoes is the worst! Also, clear lights all the way. We have the same argument.

  • Yay for getting in the Christmas spirit! 🙂 Loved hearing a little more about your Christmas traditions. I’m sure this is going to be a super special year with your girls!

  • I LOVE that pic of Dart. Gifts that relate to my animals are my favorite. I totally forgot- one year I got an ornament of Lylee, including one ear up and one down. That’s one of my favorite gifts ever!
Caramel Brulee Lattes are the besttt!!

  • I totally agree with waking up in your own house on Christmas morning! So magical!

  • I love collecting ornaments from my travels too! My parents started doing this a long time ago and now I’ve tried to carry on the tradition. It’s so fun to reminisce about trips when putting them on the tree. Happy Holidays!!
