It’s so crazy that it’s already the second week of January, and that my maternity leave is winding down and almost over! It’s still so hard to believe! Our weekend was pretty much the same as it’s been lately with a ton of baby happenings like feedings and changing diapers, but the exciting part was that my cousin came into town to spend the weekend with us. She was seriously such a help by cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner for us and just holding and hanging out with babies. It was so nice to have the help around, especially since Friday was my first day home alone with the girls and there might have been a meltdown or two. Needless to say, she couldn’t have come at a more perfect time! Anyways, I’m changing it up a little bit and I’m linking up with Andrea and The Blended Blog for some TBB Asks to kick off January!

The Wandering Weekenders- TBB Asks January

  1. Resolutions or no resolutions?
Usually I’m a resolution type of person, but this year I didn’t even have time to think about one! That being said I usually stick to the same resolutions every year anyways: trying to eat healthier and try to work out more.
  2. Love snow or no snow?
I totally love snow, but I think that’s because snow is still just such a novelty to us down in the South and it doesn’t happen very often. We actually got snow this year in Houston and everybody freaked out! I’m sure that if I lived up North I’d hate the snow, but I would love to have a white Christmas one of these years!

  3. Name a new place you want to go this year?
I honestly don’t know if we’ll be taking any trips this year where we have to fly with the girls because it honestly freaks me out with them being so young right now. But I would love to try and drive somewhere with them and do a road trip. There’s multiple places around that would be fun for us to visit that are within driving distance, so we’ll see if we can try to get something planned! I’m thinking maybe Hot Springs Arkansas or even a road trip across Texas to Marfa and Big Bend!
  4. Would you rather have a new hair cut or hair color?
I’m not one that can change up her hair style too much, it’s pretty much either long or short, but about a year and a half ago I made the plunge and went blonde. I have to admit that I love it, and I don’t know if I’ll ever go back!

  5. Name one special thing you want to do for yourself this year?
I have to admit that it’ll be hard to do anything for myself this year with the girls being so young, but I’d love to maybe have a little quiet time to myself to just relax. Or maybe to go on a trip with my girlfriends or something like that. We’ll have to wait and see if I can get something planned!
  6. Least favorite thing about January?
I still really hate that January is so cold (kind of an oxymoron considering that I do like snow), but I also hate how dark it gets because it’s still daylight savings time. I also hate how long it takes me to get used to writing down the new year when I’m dating things!
  7. Most favorite thing about January?
The fact that it represents such a new beginning to the year and anything else that you might want. It’s a chance to start fresh and make the most of the year to come.
  8. When do you take down your Holiday decorations?
We try to take them down as close to the beginning of January as possible. Thankfully my cousin came in town this weekend to help us out so that Chris could take everything down and get it put up. It’s always hard though because we have Christmas with Chris’s side of the family at New Years so we don’t want to take down our decorations just yet, but the beginning of the year also marks the busy time of the year for me at work so it’s a Catch 22.
  9. Do you diet in January?
I always tend to diet in January although I try not to go too extreme one way or the other. Generally Chris and I try to be better about meal planning and eat meals that are better for us, and that usually works for us. If I tried to go extreme diet I totally wouldn’t survive!
  10. What area of your home do you want to organize the most?
I’d say probably my closet. At least before the girls were born I went through and got rid of a bunch of clothes that don’t fit anymore, but it’s still not really organized too much. Who knows when I’ll have time for that though!
  11. Favorite Winter Comfort Food?
Without out a doubt the thing that I love the most during the winter is soups, stews, and chilis! What’s even better about all of those is that they can usually be thrown in to a crockpot for easy cooking!
  12. Favorite Guilty Pleasure
My favorite guilty pleasure will always be reality TV! I seriously can’t get enough of all the Real Housewives and The Bachelor and Big Brother and pretty much anything else you can think of. Yes I have a problem, but I still love it so much!

I always love The TBB Asks every month because I feel like it’s a great way to start thinking about what’s happening with the coming month. This year is a little different for me as far as New Years Resolutions go, but I’m excited to see what 2018 has in store for us!

Do you have any New Years Resolutions for the year? Do you have any guilty pleasures that you’re trying to kick?

  • oh this is fun! i am not a resolutions person but i think i generally am the same as you that i want to work out more and eat better. i think road trips sound like a great idea with the girls. you guys have a ton you can explore by car so i think it’ll be fun to see what adventures you get into when it warms up a little 🙂

  • Living on Cloud Nine

Your house looks so beautiful with that dusting of snow! I think this year is going to be so much fun for you, make sure you take some Me time mama! Gimmie all the soups and stews for sure! Have a wonderful start to your week! xo

  • Nadine

I am with you on loving snow! Your house looks so pretty in the snow!!! It is so hard to do anything for yourself right now, but you will get that back! Well, at least slowly in my experience 🙂 I hope that 2018 has lots of great things in store for you, and maybe even a road trip or two!

  • I always love these posts! It would be great for you to do something special for yourself, even if it’s just a little quiet time. I’m sure it was so fun for you to get some snow this year, but trust me – you don’t want anymore than that. Ha!

  • Lol, from one blonde to another, we have more fun! Cuddle up with those precious babies and stay warm!

  • Ahh so exciting for your first day alone with the girls, I can only imagine how hard it was, but I know you did awesome! And so sweet of your cousin to come visit and help out so much, little things like that make such a huge difference! Blonde hair looks so good on you (& that’s such a good picture of you & chris!), and I’m with you on your favorite comfort foods!

  • Fun post! Good luck going back to work – do you go back this month? And I am DYING to have a white Christmas soon in Texas. If not, I want to pack up and go somewhere snowy for Christmas with my family.

  • I can’t imagine how hard/scary it was to have your first day alone with the girls (though I’m kinda amazed Chris got so much time off! <3) Yay for your cousin coming to help! We are also iffy about flying this year and are thinking of a road trip in the fall. My current thought is maybe Colorado to see the aspens turn yellow!

  • Reality TV all the way- it’s my guilty pleasure too. A few of my girlfriends that are also Mom’s want to plan a weekend away. We’ve been talking about it, but not sure if and when it will happen, haha!

  • Biana Perez

I can definitely see you taking a few road trips in the future this year! Yes to reality tv – I’m so excited so many great shows are back this January!! xo, Biana –BlovedBoston

  • The freak Texas snow we had was so fun! Oh, and reconsider flying with the girls while they are little. In my experience, people tend to have compassion with babies – screaming toddlers are a completely different story! 😉 No matter what – you guys will create amazing memories with those two cuties!

  • I absolutely love soup this time of year, too. I got a great recipe book just for soup that I can’t wait to read through this winter 🙂

    Meg, Borrowed Heaven

  • Soup is the best this time of year! I am the same on the snow, such a novelty! I hope you get some time to yourself this year and get a girls trip planned. Your cousin sounds like a lifesaver, how sweet of her!

  • Soup and stew are so comforting when it’s cold outside!

  • Nicole F

Happy 2018! I am catching up with your blog tonight. I’ve been so out of it! I’m in total agreement with your winter comfort foods and I get it about the snow/cold conundrum 🙂 Not even sure where I pulled that word from haha. It just seemed to fit!

  • I totally understand hating the cold but loving the snow! It has been so chilly here, but I feel like if it’s going to be that cold, it would be nice to have some snow to go along with it! Hope you had a great weekend, Ashley!

  • Jen

I definitely feel the same about the snow. The novelty will never wear off for me because I’m not used to it.

  • Bring on all the soups and chilis right now! I still can’t believe you guys got snow, but totally agree that the cold and darkness are the worst parts about January. Enjoy these last few weeks of maternity leave and allll the baby snuggles <3

    Green Fashionista

  • Ooh yes to stews and chilis! Totally got a lot of my chili fix while up on the slopes! Wouldn’t mind a good stew right now with all this rainy weather we’re getting… i love snow but the snow in NYC quickly turns super gross, so… Enjoy the last bits of your maternity leave!!

  • Eek I remember my first solo day at home like it was yesterday, I can’t imagine with two! I can’t wait to meet the girls this week. Flying is way easier when they are small, I would do that before a road trip the first year any day!

  • Hooray for reality TV!!! Oooh, that reminds me that I’ll have a new episode of The Challenge to watch during Alice’s night feeding!

  • Your home looks so gorgeous with the snow! I forgot to make a new year’s resolution this year but I think you have a better excuse than I do LOL! Your hair looks so pretty in that pic and I’m totally with ya on getting my closet organized Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  • I completely failed to make resolutions this year – I’m just going to keep on trying with the ones I made in October during our Sort Our Lives Out trip away. Guilty pleasures I’m trying to kick include diet coke (man, so addicted. But I’ve only had one this year which I’m very proud of) and snacking on chocolate chips… I tell myself I’m only having a couple at a time so it’s not bad, but throughout the day it certainly adds up.

Road trip or trip by plane, they’ll all be amazing memories to look back on. Do whatever you’ll enjoy most!
