TBB Asks September- Back To School Edition

Happy Labor Day everybody! I’m still weekending on this long first weekend of September, but I’m linking up with Andrea and the girls at The Blended Blog for their TBB Asks Back-To-School-Edition! So I hope you enjoy these questions that will take you on a little trip down memory lane!

The Wandering Weekenders- TBB Asks September- Back To School Edition

  1. Did you love school or hate it?
Even though I groaned about having to wake up early, I really did love school. I loved getting new clothes and all of the new school supplies too!
  2. Start school before or after Labor Day?
In Texas we always started school before Labor Day. Things have changed a little bit since I was in school, but we always started early August and got out of school way before Memorial Day. Now the kids normally start late August, still before Labor Day and get out closer to Memorial Day, sometimes afterwards.
  3. Wake up: eager beaver or slow poke?
I definitely was a lot easier to wake up when I was younger than I am now, although I definitely think that part of my problem now is that I have social media to look at when I wake up in the morning.
  4. Favorite breakfast?
I’m not a huge breakfast person at all, so I usually just stuck with cereal or toast for breakfast during school. That being said, if I’m going to eat breakfast, I’m always going to go for breakfast tacos because they’re the best!
The Wandering Weekenders- TBB Asks September- Back To School Edition
  5. Favorite cereal?
Frosted Mini Wheats or Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

  6. School uniform or no school uniform?
We had those amazing school uniforms that included the pleated skirts…
  7. New outfit for first day or no?
When we didn’t have uniforms we always had a new outfit for school, and my mom always took a picture of us on the first day.
  8. Walk to school or ride the bus?
In Elementary School we always walked to school since we weren’t on a bus route, but when I started going to private school they didn’t have a bus route so my dad would drop me off.
  9. Backpack, tote or messenger bag?
Always a backpack, even in college!
  10. Eat school lunch or pack lunch?
I had a pretty good mix of both, but usually my mom would pack my lunch 3 or 4 days a week and then normally I’d get pizza on Fridays.
  11. Remember the little milk cartons? White or chocolate?
Yes! And I’m a white milk girl always!
  12. Paper bag or lunch box?
Lunch box! It was always so much fun to get to pick out a new one every year!
  13. Favorite thing to do at recess?
We always used to play games with each other which included a lot of tag.
  14. Favorite back to school supply item?
I always loved new markers and colored pencils.
  15. Chalkboard or dry erase marker?
Dry erase markers. I hated the mess that chalk made.
  16. Regular pencil or mechanical?
  17. Homework as soon as you got home or afternoon?
I’m still a little bit of a procrastinator, but I usually tried to get my homework done after I got home from school. If it was writing a paper, I usually got that done closer to the due date.
  18. Favorite after school snack?
    Those Little Debbie’s Cosmic Brownies

  19. Favorite after school show?
My sister always loved to watch Doug and Rugrats after school!

  20. Favorite subject in school?
    Math, I am an accountant!
  21. Least favorite school subject?
I was never a huge fan of science.
  22. Name of your best friend in high school?
  23. High school mascot type?
    We were the Cougars
  24. SAT or ACT?
I took both, but did way better on the SAT since I forgot my calculator for the ACT.
  25. Favorite year in school?
My senior year! It was so much fun, and I couldn’t wait for college!
  26. Class Ring or no Class Ring?
I got a class ring, but I didn’t wear it after high school. I still wear my college ring, but that’s because the Aggie Ring is kind of a big deal.
The Wandering Weekenders- TBB Asks September- Back To School Edition
  27. Attend or not attend high school reunion?
I have not attended any high school reunions. I don’t really keep in contact with that many people from school.

And there you have it! Are any of your answers similar to mine? Did you look forward to school starting?

A Hurricane Harvey Update and About Me In Three’s!

Hi Everyone! After about 4 days of stressing about how much rain we were going to get and whether or not our house would flood, I’m very happy to say that we’re one of the lucky ones in Houston that didn’t get flooded. But my beloved city is completely devastated by the catastrophic flooding that has occurred because of Hurricane Harvey. I have friends that have had to evacuate their homes because there was the potential of them being flooded in and they didn’t want to risk having to be rescued from their homes like so many other people in the Houston area.

The Wandering Weekenders- A Hurricane Harvey Update & About Me In Threes

Even though the rain has stopped for some parts of the city, I don’t think that we’ll know how much devastation that Houston and the entire Southeastern part of Texas has had for quite a while. Thousands have seriously lost everything, and they need your help. Any donation, no matter how small will help these people out to get what they need such as food and water and other basic needs. So please consider donating!

On Tuesday the rain had stopped for us in our neighborhood and the water was starting to recede, so our neighborhood started to use one of our clubhouses as a staging place to get donations ready to move out to the shelters located in our area. Chris and I brought some things from our house and when we drove up I could instantly tell how many people were trying to help. I’ve never seen the parking lot that filled with cars and literally the entire clubhouse was full of donations of clothes, towels, water, food and other basic needs.

Even though this tragedy has taken so much from people, I think that the real story coming out from Hurricane Harvey needs to be how much the city of Houston and people from all over the state of Texas and the country have really banded and pulled together through all of this. You had tons of people that had boats and jet skis that helped to volunteer to rescue people from their houses, people volunteering at the multiple shelters all over the city, and also people donating whatever they could to the people at the shelters. I know that it’ll be a struggle, but the city of Houston and the surrounding areas of Southeast Texas will come back from this and we’ll be stronger than ever!

Now I know that things have been pretty dark around the blog lately, so I thought that I’d try to lighten it up a little bit. I’ve seen these prompts floating around on several blogs lately, and these are always so much fun to write and to read, so I figured that I’d jump on the bandwagon as well! So here’s a little get to know me post with three things about me!

A little bit of a Hurricane Harvey update, but a lighter post to help you get to know me better. All about me in threes!

Would You Rather- Travel Edition

It’s been a little while since I’ve done one of these Would You Rather posts, a year to be exact, but since I’m traveling right now I thought that it’d be fun to answer some of these questions. Thanks again to Shane from Atlas Adrift for coming up with some fun and thought provoking questions!

The Wandering Weekenders- Would You Rather Travel Edition

Die saving 10,000 strangers from death, knowing no one would ever know it was you or live knowing everyone would know you decided not to save 10,000 people’s lives?
I think that I’d rather die saving people from death, even if they didn’t know who I was. I mean isn’t that what being a hero is all about? Plus with the way that social media and the news is today, can you even imagine what it would be like if everybody knew that you didn’t save all of these people. I really don’t think that I’m that selfless, I think that it’s more along the lines that I don’t want to be publicly harassed.

Eat live octopus (Sannakji) in Korea OR eat boiled-alive baby duck (Balut) in the Philippines?
Chris always makes fun of me when we go to sushi restaurants and we’re letting the chef pick for us because I always say that I don’t want to eat anything that’s looking at me. So this answer is definitely pretty easy for me, I would have to eat the baby duck. As sad as it sounds, you eat lobster and frogs after they’ve been boiled alive, right?

The Wandering Weekenders- Weekending- Getting Stuff Done

Lose all of your money OR all of your pictures you have ever taken?
I would much rather lose all of my money rather than my pictures. I don’t know how Chris deals with me, but I’m so obsessive about all of our pictures because I know that they’re our visual memories. I would be absolutely devastated if I lost all of my pictures! I know that you still have memories of all of those events, but sometimes just looking at a picture can bring back even more memories of an event. Plus you can share that memory with others! You can always earn money back, you’d never be able to get those pictures back.

Be deep sea diving and your oxygen tank runs out OR be bungee jumping and have your cord snap?
This is a tough one. I feel like you might not necessarily know what’s happening if your cord snaps when you’re bungee jumping, plus it would be a quick death. With your oxygen running out when you’re deep sea diving I feel like it’s be a slow death and you would probably really know what’s going on. I’d probably have to choose the bungee jumping.

Be a part of a real Jurassic Park scenario OR be a part of a real Day After Tomorrow scenario?
I’d choose real life Jurassic Park scenario. While it’d be terrifying to have a T-Rex or a Velociraptor after me, it would still be pretty awesome to see some of the other veggie dinosaurs around. I definitely don’t like the idea of freezing to death in a Day After Tomorrow scenario, although if I remember correctly, all of us in the South would still end up OK, so maybe that wouldn’t be too bad!

The Wandering Weekenders- Exploring Kauai From The Air

Live in the Avatar universe OR the Pokemon universe?
I never watched Pokemon, so this is definitely an easy pick for me, I’m choosing the Avatar universe. They’re actually doing a real Avatar universe at Animal Kingdom in Disney World, and I can’t wait to visit it!

The Wandering Weekenders- A Safari in Florida

Experience an epic water slide OR an epic zip line?
Both of these sound really awesome, but I’m going to choose the epic zip line. I’ve had too many bad bathing suit experiences (ie major wedgies) on water slides to want to ride a truly epic one. Plus could you imagine the views from that epic zip line and how fast you’d be going!

The Wandering Weekenders- Zipline Kauai With Skyline Eco-Adventures

Be blessed with more time OR more money?
This is a tough one. With more money you could potentially live your life more to the fullest, but with more time you’d be able to potentially do more than what you are right now. It would probably help to know how much time you do have to see if it’s even worth it too! I think that I’d probably end up choosing more money though. I’d like to be able to travel more with it!

Meet a foreign guy in your travels knowing it would be a fleeting romance OR stick to what you know in a stable and reliable relationship in your own country?
Since I’m kind of married to an amazing guy and we’ve known each other for so long, I think that it’s safe to say that I’d choose the foreign guy on my travels. Just kidding! Of course I’d choose the stable relationship! Plus it’s so much fun to travel with your significant other too.

The Wandering Weekenders- 20 Things I Learned While Visiting Europe

Call one place home for the rest of your life OR move somewhere new every year?
I’m probably one of the few people that actually lived in the same house that they grew up in their whole life. I didn’t actually move until I went to college! My parents actually just moved out of my childhood home into their dream home in April, and it was so surreal to think that we’ll never spend another night in that home. So based on my experience, I think that I’d like to call one place home for the rest of my life. I love the stability of it, especially since I’ve had it all my life. Although, I have to admit, it does sound pretty darn fun to be able to move somewhere new every year! I just don’t think that I’d like the packing and moving process all the time. Plus, I would hate having to make new friends everywhere!

And there you have it, some tough choices for this round of Would You Rather- Travel Edition! I hope that y’all are all having a great day, and you’ll have to let me know if you agree or disagree with my choices!
