Canyon Lake

A Beautiful Lake Weekend

After staying at home for the past month or so, Chris and I were beyond excited to head to Canyon Lake for the weekend with some friends of ours. It was such a great weekend filled with great food, great scenery, and the best company! Of course, I’m linking up with Biana for some weekending!

The Wandering Weekenders- A Beautiful Lake Weekend

Friday

As soon as I was done with work on Friday, Chris and I hit the road to Canyon Lake for the weekend. Our friends Sarah and Clayton had invited us and some other friends to their lake house for the weekend and we seriously were beyond excited! Luckily we didn’t hit too much traffic and made it there in pretty good time.

The Wandering Weekenders- A Beautiful Lake Weekend

We spent Friday night like we normally do when we all get together after not hanging out for a while, talking about anything and everything. It was so much fun to just catch up with everybody and see how things were going. We all headed to bed around midnight, so maybe I’m not as an old lady as I think that I am!

Saturday

We were up pretty early Saturday morning but still took our time making breakfast and relaxing before the guys grabbed all of the lake stuff and headed down to the water and us girls quickly followed. Unfortunately for me, my doctor had suggested that I don’t get in the water because he didn’t know how clean it was, but it was still a lot of fun to just hang out and talk to everybody even while they were in the water.

The Wandering Weekenders- A Beautiful Lake Weekend

Dart came down with us and while he didn’t particularly love being in the water where he couldn’t touch the bottom he still liked getting held by Chris in the water, well maybe he didn’t like that too much. I was glad that we took his bed with us though, because he just enjoyed lying under the shade of the umbrella on his bed and hanging out with us.

I was really glad that they had all of the umbrellas because I was able to hang out near the water underneath them and stayed pretty cool the whole time and I didn’t have to worry about burning, which was really nice! Sarah and Clayton also had their adorable daughter Ellie with them and she had such a blast splashing in the water and looked the cutest in her bathing suit! I have to admit I seriously can’t wait until we know our genders so I can start thinking about all the clothes I get to buy our own babies!

The Wandering Weekenders- A Beautiful Lake Weekend

We headed back up to the house around lunch time and spent a few hours just hanging out and relaxing. We had every intention of going back down to the water, but unfortunately some pretty big thunderstorms rolled through so we had to cancel our afternoon plans. So instead we spent the afternoon playing board games and hanging out. Before we knew it, the storms had passed and it was time that we got started on dinner. The guys grilled fajitas and it was the perfect meal to end our lake day!

The Wandering Weekenders- A Beautiful Lake Weekend

It probably wasn’t the wisest move, but after dinner we decided to play a new board game that Chris had picked up recently called Pandemic. The instructions were so incredibly confusing and it took us a while to figure out how to play, but by the end of the game we had it figured it out. We still ended up losing, but we all loved it at the end! The whole premise of the game is that there’s a disease outbreak all over the world and everybody had to work together to try and cure the diseases. It’s a lot of strategy and thinking ahead, and confusing at first like I said, but it’s so much fun! Definitely try and check this game out!

Sunday

We had stayed up late the night before to play the game, but we were still up pretty Sunday morning and did the same routine that we had Saturday morning. After breakfast we were all still talking about Pandemic so we decided to play again. It definitely helped that we knew how to play the second time around because we ended up winning the second time around! It was a blast!

We spent the rest of the morning just hanging out and talking while the guys went fishing and before we knew it, it was time to start packing up to head home. It was such a fun weekend and I swear that the drive back is always the worst!

The Wandering Weekenders- A Beautiful Lake Weekend

We got home at a decent time that afternoon and unpacked everything before heading back out to meet up with my parents and sister and brother in law to all celebrate my sister’s birthday and Chris’s birthday. We had so much fun all getting together and hanging out, and I don’t think that’s happened since my cousin’s wedding back in May!

Even though Chris and I were tired when we got home from dinner, there was one thing that we absolutely had to do before bed, and that was to watch Game of Thrones! We seriously can’t wait for this season!

Overall it was a fantastic weekend and definitely one for the books! We can’t wait to all get together again for another fun filled weekend!

Do you like going to the lake on the weekends? Did you watch the season premier of GOT?

The First Weekend Back In The States

Happy Monday everybody! We made it back home from Europe last week, and we seriously had the best time! I still can’t believe that our trip that we’ve been planning for over a year and a half is over, but I guess that means that I can start planning our next big trip, right?

The Wandering Weekenders- Our first weekend back in the states was spent at Canyon Lake for one of the last warm weekends of the year!

In true Chris and Ashley fashion, instead of spending our first weekend at home trying to get our lives organized again after our big trip, we decided to head to Canyon Lake with some of our friends! So I’m linking back up with the fabulous Biana to share my lake weekend recap with y’all!

Friday

We’re in the process of converting our accounting system at work again, so it was a pleasant surprise that we got off work a couple of hours early on Friday because of that conversion. So instead of leaving Houston at almost 6, we got out of town a couple of hours early which meant that we got to the lake early!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our first weekend back in the states was spent at Canyon Lake for one of the last warm weekends of the year!

We spent the night hanging out with our friends playing Beanboozled and The 5 Second Game. Beanboozled is a game that has 2 different flavors of jelly beans that look the same but one is a good flavor and the other is a bad flavor. For example buttered popcorn and rotten eggs look the same and you have the same chances of getting either one of those. I hated playing the game because some of the flavors were gross and I don’t even like jelly beans, but it was pretty hilarious to see everybody’s reactions when they got a yucky jelly bean. For example, Chris practically projectiled one of them out of his mouth when he got the rotten cheese one! So pretty much play at your own risk!

Saturday

When we woke up on Saturday we were expecting to have some pretty gross weather and didn’t know if we’d be able to go out on the lake. Luckily for us, the weather ended up clearing up for the most part and we enjoyed a day at the lake hanging out on rafts, talking, fishing, drinking, and just having a great time!

One of the funniest things about our time at the lake was when we took Dart into the lake. It’s so funny because he loves getting in the pool at daycare but he hates being in the water with us!

Our friends had a huge floating raft in the water, so we got Dart and put him in the water with us. I don’t think that he quite knew what to do with the water because he kept on walking from one edge of the raft to the other. Then I think that a fish came up and scared him because he ran straight off the raft into the water! He swam back but not before we all ended up dying laughing at how funny he was!

After lake time, we spent the rest of our evening just relaxing and talking some more. The guys grilled outside while the girls hung inside prepping and talking. The Aggies had a late game against Arkansas Saturday night, and even though I kept on falling asleep during the game, I was so happy that we actually had a good game against Arkansas and beat them pretty handedly! Hopefully we’ll continue to do well, especially when we play Tennessee and Alabama later on in October.

Sunday

We spent Sunday relaxing and talking some more before having to pack up and head home. Somehow we managed to bring a ton of food with us and came home with almost as much food as we brought, even though we ate a ton this weekend! The rest of the night we spent relaxing and trying to get things organized at the house.

Overall we had such a great weekend at the lake, and it was the perfect and relaxing weekend to welcome us back home to Texas!

A Weekend at Canyon Lake

Have you ever had one of those weekends where all you do is just sit around and do nothing? I feel like I tell y’all about my do nothing weekends all the time, but to tell you the truth, they’re some of the best weekends that I have. It’s just nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the week and everyday life.

This past weekend, some friends of ours invited us to their lake house at Canyon Lake, which is in the Texas hill country. After a couple of weeks of traveling, I was looking forward to a nice and quiet weekend with no plans. And that’s exactly how the weekend panned out!

The Wandering Weekenders- A Weekend at Canyon Lake

We got there Friday night, and spent the whole night drinking wine and playing Heads Up and  5 Second Rule. I had actually never played Heads Up before this weekend, but now it’s definitely one of my favorite games to play. The girls were definitely better at the game than the guys, we totally kicked their butts at the Superstars and Movie decks.

And if y’all haven’t played 5 Second Rule, you should totally pick it up. Basically you get asked a question, like name 3 types of dogs, and you have 5 seconds to come up with an answer. You can say breeds like dalmatian or whippet, or not even things that were that specific like mutt or puppy. The catch is that if you can’t answer it within 5 seconds then the next person has to answer the question in 5 seconds, but they can’t use the answers that you used. It’s a lot of fun, and definitely gets more interesting once there’s been alcohol involved.

On Saturday, the girls spent the day hanging out on the deck and talking with this amazing view, while the boys spent the day fishing and not catching anything. We couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather for the weekend, especially after the rainy weather we’ve been having in Houston lately.

We also spent the day eating a whole lot of food and day drinking because what else are you supposed to do at the lake?

Our two puppies also enjoyed their time at the lake, and had lots of fun cuddling with each other.

The puppies also enjoyed checking out all of the deer that came out in the mornings and the evenings.

We grilled out for dinner on Saturday, and then ended our night with some s’mores because you can’t not have s’mores when there’s a fire burning.

On Sunday, we relaxed some more on the deck before packing up to head home. We both had so much fun with good friends, and it was exactly what we needed to get ourselves ready to conquer the week!
