Pre-Christmas Weekending With Twins

After 5 weeks with the girls and barely making it out of the house, I’m very excited to actually have some weekending activities to actually talk about! While it definitely wasn’t as busy as some other weekends in the past, it was a very busy weekend with two little ones that are on a feeding schedule! So of course, I’m linking up with the always amazing Biana for some weekending!

The Wandering Weekenders- Pre-Christmas Weekending With TwinsFriday

It was a very exciting Friday for the entire city of Houston because after going to bed on Thursday with actual snow flurries, we woke up to a winter wonderland! Chris and I were up bright and early Friday morning for a 4AM feed and we were so excited to see our front and back yards blanketed in snow! It was so beautiful!

The Wandering Weekenders- Pre-Christmas Weekending With TwinsWhen we woke up after the 7AM feed we were so happy that the snow was still on the ground, so I took some pictures outside. The girls don’t have a ton of clothes for cold weather so we didn’t take them outside to experience their first snow, but we did take a picture in front of the window. Needless to say their December has been pretty exciting, but they don’t even know it yet!

The Wandering Weekenders- Pre-Christmas Weekending With TwinsThe Wandering Weekenders- Pre-Christmas Weekending With TwinsThe rest of Friday was spent doing all of the baby things, changing diapers and feeding them and getting all of the baby cuddles. Chris had a lot more exciting of a Friday afternoon and evening than me. He not only installed an EcoBee in our house with the help of a neighbor, but he also finished breaking down the deer he shot last weekend and grilled sausage for our party on Saturday night.

We were up bright and early Saturday morning right after the girls’ 7AM feed because we had a lot that we needed to get ready for the day! I actually had time to shower and put on makeup while Chris watched the girls and then we packed ourselves up for our first night away from home with the girls!

We made lists of everything that we needed for our first night away, and after Chris got the car fully loaded up, we quickly realized that our lives are never going to be the same with two little ones involved. I got a brand new Honda Pilot earlier in the week, and even with the third row folded down, we had stuff piled up high in the back. Needless to say, it’s going to be an event to go anywhere over night again!

We fed the girls really quick and then headed over to my sister’s house to drop our stuff off before heading out to our first activity of the day! Our friends were having a Sip & See for their son who spent a couple of months in the NICU, and that’s where we headed with the girls in tow! It was so nice to get out and spend some time with old friends, and the icing on the cake was the fact that the girls were really good the entire time that we were out! They were good just being held by us and only got fussy when it was time for a feeding and needed a diaper change. It was awesome!

After a great visit, we packed the girls up and headed back to my sister’s house for the rest of the night! We were having our annual Christmas party with my sister and brother in law and our good friends, and this year was my sister’s year to host! We ran a quick errand to pick up some cheese, and before we knew it our friends had arrived with their daughter and the party had officially started!

The reason that we get together every year at Christmas is because our parents all lived next door to each other when we were growing up for a few years and they always hosted an annual Christmas party. 32 years later and they still host the Christmas party every year and funnily enough their party was only a mile down the road from my sister’s house. So all the adults came over for a little bit to see us, but primarily to see the babies! It was a lot of fun, and great to see everybody!

Before we knew it, it was time for our friends to get their little one to bed and they headed out for the night. We were spending the night at my sister’s house, so we were going to try and stay up until the girls’ last feeding. We started watching Elf, but I barely made it to Buddy arriving in NYC before I passed out. Needless to say those late night feedings are getting to me!

Luckily enough for us though, the girls only woke up at 4AM (which is quickly becoming our new normal) and then 7AM, so we were able to get some sleep that night. We hung out at my sister’s house for a few hours before packing up all the stuff for the girls and heading back home. We got home right in time for the girls’ feeding, and after they were done eating, we decided to take them on a walk to get the mail and then made a quick trip to the grocery store. I’m so incredibly thankful that once they get in their car seats and start moving they’re perfectly happy babies!

The rest of the night was spent relaxing on the couch with the girls watching our normal Sunday night TV and our first viewing of Home Alone for the season! It was the perfect end to a very full and fun weekend!

The winter wonderland in Houston made for a perfect pre-Christmas weekend with our twin girls. We finally got out of the house and it was awesome!

Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving Weekend

I don’t know what’s harder to believe that the girls are already almost a month old or that they got to celebrate their first holiday that they weren’t even supposed to experience just yet! I’m linking up with Biana for a little Thanksgiving weekending!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendThursday

I swear all of the days seem to run together lately and I almost forget what day it is. Thankfully my parents came in town Wednesday afternoon so I knew exactly what day was going to be Thanksgiving. Life with twins is pretty chaotic and some days I don’t even have time to take a shower, but on Thanksgiving since we’d have the extra help with my parents I was for sure going to actually take a shower, do my hair and put on makeup. This has only happened a grand total of two times since the girls have gotten here, and I wanted to make sure that we got a good family picture of all four of us, so the makeup needed to happen.

The Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendAfter I’d finished getting ready, we spent the rest of the morning just relaxing in between feedings for the girls. We watched the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the dog show, both of which are kind of novelties to me because we were always traveling Thanksgiving morning growing up so we always missed it. Chris and I always still root for the whippet during the dog show, and even though she won her category, unfortunately she lost out in the best of show category.

The Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendEverybody else spent the rest of the day getting Thanksgiving dinner ready, while I was pretty much in charge of the girls. We kept the food pretty low key because there were only 4 adults, but we did have fried turkey, dressing, green bean casserole, brussels sprouts, and cranberry sauce, all of which was delicious! This year the fried turkey was a little bit of an experiment because Chris tried out his oil-less fryer, and of course it turned out delicious! We’re still enjoying the leftovers!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendThe Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendThe Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendThe rest of the day was spent watching some football and just relaxing with family and hanging out with the girls. They definitely weren’t too interested in anything Thanksgiving related, but that didn’t stop me from getting them a cute Thanksgiving day outfit!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendFriday

At the girls’ two week checkup our pediatrician said that the girls weren’t gaining the amount of weight that she’d like so she said that she’d like us to start making sure that we feed them every 4 hours. Basically with babies born as early as the girls, they just get tired and forget that they’re hungry so they don’t wake up. It’s nice for us as parents, but not so good for the girls obviously.

So Chris and I have been waking the girls up, and while they still sleep through the night until their feedings, they don’t seem like they really get fed that well at their 6AM feeding and start fussing like an hour later. It was really starting to frustrate me, especially since we didn’t know if the girls were actually gaining weight at all. So my mom called our pediatrician and we visited a nurse to just get their weight. Thankfully both girls are now above 5 pounds which means that they’re above their birth weight! I’m so incredibly thankful for that, and it makes the whole waking up thing totally worth it! I also think that maybe the reason they’re eating so much after each feeding is that they’re going through a growth spurt and going to chunk up soon!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendFor obvious reasons, I didn’t do any Black Friday shopping in the stores because the girls are still too little to go out, but I did do some shopping online. I feel kind of bad because I didn’t do much Christmas shopping for anybody else, but I did manage to snag a few things for myself. Oops! Chris and my dad do go shopping for a little bit, but they didn’t find anything that they couldn’t live without either. We spent the rest of the day just relaxing with my parents before they headed home, and then Chris and I spent the rest of the night relaxing with the girls before heading to bed.

Our goal was to try and get some Christmas decorating done, but the girls were wanting to be held pretty much all day Saturday, so we spent the day watching college football instead with my friend Kayla. Unfortunately for us, the Aggies got their butts kicked by LSU yet again, and I have a feeling that all of the controversy surrounding Coach Sumlin might have had something to do with that. Anyways, even though the Aggie game wasn’t that exciting, there were a lot of other games on Saturday, including the Iron Bowl which was a really good game! It’ll be very interesting to see how the college rankings shake out with the Alabama upset!

We finally managed to break out some of the Christmas decorations Sunday morning! Chris got all of the trees out and put up, and I think that he’ll get some of the other decorations out so that I can slowly start decorating later on this week. Putting up the ornaments on the tree is always one of my favorite parts about Christmas, and I know that putting up the ornaments for the girls is going to be one of my favorite parts this year!

The Wandering Weekenders- Our First Family of Four Thanksgiving WeekendOther than that, Chris and I just relaxed for the day and watched a ton of Jersey Shore that was playing on MTV. I remember when it came out originally my last year in college, and oh my goodness, it’s still as addicting now as it was back then. Please don’t judge me too much!

So while this definitely wasn’t a super exciting Thanksgiving weekend like we’ve had in the past, it was still really nice to just have a nice, chill weekend at home with the girls. It’ll be interesting to see if things are any different at Christmas!

The Weekend Of Getting Baby Stuff Done

Happy second Monday in October everybody! It’s still so surreal that it’s already the second Monday of the month, especially since it’s still so hot in Texas so it doesn’t feel like fall, plus it just means that I’m that much closer to my due date! I’m already 33 weeks, and it still doesn’t feel real! I’m hoping to get another bumpdate up this week, so hopefully you can look for that on Friday. Anyways, in true Monday fashion, it’s time for a little weekending with the always fabulous Biana!

The Wandering Weekenders- The Weekend Of Getting Baby Stuff Done

Things were going really well at work with our quarter end close, but with the Astros playoff game potentially ending right around the time that I normally get off work, I decided to head out of the office about 5 minutes early. It was so nice because I was able to get out of the office and home at a decent time.

Our neighborhood has started up Food Truck Fridays again, which I think happens every other week or once a month, but basically they get a whole bunch of Food Trucks at the front of the neighborhood with some music and basically gives everybody a chance to get together and eat some food. Chris and I had never been, but thought that it’d be a fun way to spend our Friday night so we decided to go.

They had about 6 or 7 food truck there and Chris and I had fun getting to try a little bit from a few different ones. We tried some tacos and empanadas, and then of course we couldn’t pass up cupcakes for dessert. It was also a lot of fun to see how many young parents there were in the neighborhood, and surreal to think that in just a few short months that’ll be us!

We spent the rest of the night just relaxing at home and watching movies that were on TV. It was nice to have a quiet night at home without any plans after having such a busy past few weeks.

Sleeping in has definitely been a priority the past few weekends since I know that it’ll be in short supply once the babies get here, and this weekend was no different. I slept in a little bit Saturday morning before waking up to shower and head over to my friend Sarah’s house. It had seriously been forever since we’d gotten to hang out, and this weekend couldn’t have been more perfect.

I drove over to her house and spent the afternoon just hanging out with her and her daughter. We had some Chick-fil-A for lunch and then just hung out at their house for the afternoon talking about anything and everything, although there was a lot of baby talk, and we started watching the second season of Fuller House and even snuck in some Real Housewives in there too! We had such a good time that we decided to do the same thing next weekend! I already can’t wait!

I came home later that afternoon, and Chris and I watched the Aggie game. To be honest, neither one of us had high hopes for actually beating Bama, so I think that we were both pleasantly surprised with how well we played against the Tide and how close the game actually was. Were you at least a little bit nervous Nadine?

One thing that I really want to do before too long is get some freezer meals ready for when the girls get here, so Chris and I went through a lot of our recipes and we figured out which ones we want to make and got our grocery list ready during the game. Now we just need to buy everything and start prepping!

Surprisingly we slept in again Sunday morning before finally waking up and getting the day started. We hadn’t received our coupon to complete our registry yet, but we went on ahead and made our way to Buy Buy Baby to get everything else that we needed from our registry. The people at the store were very nice and gave us our coupon at the store and also gave us our twin discount as well because we seriously have no idea when the girls could get here.

The Wandering Weekenders- The Weekend Of Getting Baby Stuff Done

The rest of the afternoon we spent running errands and grocery shopping before heading home for the day. We had a lot of baby stuff that was just sitting in the game room so we went on ahead and got all of that organized along with getting everything put away in the nursery. Literally everything is done and ready for the babies to get here, except for getting the hospital bags ready to go. I’m hoping to get that done sometime this week or next weekend, and then all we have to do is wait! So crazy!

After going so much the past few weeks it was really nice to just have a weekend at home to get baby stuff done and to relax for a little bit too. Once our sweet girls get here I know that we’ll be so excited, but I also know that we’ll be super busy, so I’m trying to soak in as much relaxing and doing nothing until they get here. So the next few weekends will probably not be very exciting around these parts, but I know that we’ll definitely be enjoying them!

Did you have a fun weekend? Does your neighborhood have Food Truck events?
